Wondering what to do in New York that isn’t the usual obvious sight seeing ? Visiting with someone that’s been many times and looking for different things to see and do. Any hidden gems to explore ? Thinking buildings, exhibitions, restaurants, parks anything really !

There is an AMA here, in that section, written by a woman who lives there and she's brilliant. She'll help you!

I was also going to suggest the AMA, the op (British, now lives in Manhattan) is very helpful with loads of information of the type you're looking for. Where to eat, transport, best museums etc.

There's a concord down at the Hudson naval museum

What time of year?
Smorgasburg market in Prospect Park is lovely.
New York Botanic Garden has lots of great events.
You could do a day trip to Philadelphia
See if there are any big sporting events on when you are there - baseball, American football or ice hockey perhaps?
Max Brenner chocolate bar is fun

Check out the GatherNYC website for concerts at the Museumn of Arts and Design on Sunday mornings. It’s right next to the Trump hotel so you could do a concert and then go and have a cocktail afterwards.

We also did a great tour one year based around Wall Street area which was based on the War of Independence which was very good.

A few things we didn't manage when we went a few years ago that I regretted.

The Tenement Museum, Bethel Gospel Church in Harlem for a service, the High Line, 9/11 Museum, explore Brooklyn, MOMA.

Mini golf at pier 25 (google it) was an unexpected hit. Lovely day, by the water, skyscrapers in the background. Then walk south along the water and there’s lots of waterfront restaurants.

Staten Island Ferry to Staten Island - when you get there there’s a new outlet mall by the ferry station. There’s also a nice restaurant with views of the Manhattan skyline as you come out of the ferry station.

I loved the Roosevelt island tramway, cable car part of the subway system, if you go in the evening the lights look amazing.

Go for lunch at Katz Deli, eat the potato salad, it’s incredible.

Thank you all, I will check out the AMA ! We are off on a couple of weeks mid November. Golf sound like a good call, we are competitive! Thinking of going to Coney Island and the aquarium if anyone has been to either lately ?

I adored The Tenement Museum! If you’re into immersive theatre, Sleep No More is incredible.

I loved Ellis Island. So interesting and atmospheric.
