Looking for words of wisdom/recommendations.

we've not done a holiday abroad. Kids are 11 & 14. We’ve been living through a renovation project and most definitely need a break from it all so looking for an AI holiday (I think!) Oct 2024.

I’ve been browsing TUI/Jet2 but I’m a bit overwhelmed tbh. My worst fear is that we end up somewhere a bit shit, with shit food, freezing cold pools & nothing much to do so everyone ends up a bit bored! Realise this may be a contradiction as I’m also wanting a holiday to switch off & do nothing! Argh! See my dilemma? (Go gently if you decide to give me a hard time…)

Kids v easy going & will happily join it with sports/activities although they are not especially sporty at home. The ideal would be a great pool complex/water park type resort.

if there’s anywhere that stands out/you’d definitely return to please share. Finally AI - v - B&B?

Thank you in advance

Two of the warmest islands in Greece in October are Crete and Rhodes. Choose a hotel with a teen club or hangout area so that your 14 year old can easily meet others their own age.
If you’re not sure a buffet is for you, then look out for hotels with à la carte dining as well.
Also, I’d go for somewhere within walking distance of some shops and cafes so you can go for a stroll outside the resort if you want to. Have a look at Creta Maris, Grecotel Marine Palace and Naan Golden Beach

Also when you find somewhere google reviews for this time of year so you can find out if the pool was heated, facilities open etc.

Thank you @Nodashians

The wee bit of browsing I’ve done before feeling overwhelmed suggests most pools are freshwater. 😬

Are you dead set on Greece?

Delphina17 · 23/10/2023 16:39

Could you go to the canary islands instead? Will be warmer than Greece in October.

We usually do AI as it's so easy with young kids and there's lots of food to choose from so everyone always has something they like. I find choosing restaurants quite stressful so prefer it for that reason too. Also works out much cheaper than B&B.

Thanks both. 👍🏻

Not dead set of Greece, no. Just figured gods temp for that time of year. Will have a look at Canary Islands. Anywhere you’d recommend @Delphina17 ?

We are in Alvor Portugal now, this is our 3rd time here. It's 25 degrees, sunny, outside pool is freezing but we all swim nonetheless. Ha ha, we are hard! Wink Heated indoor pool is good. Might be worth considering?

Back from Crete a week ago, average max about 26°. Sea warm but unheated pool was too cold for me. So as advised above, check pool heated!

maldivemoment · 23/10/2023 18:04

These are great. Thank you 👍🏻

Good point about checking if there is an indoor pool. Sometimes spas let DC in at certain times.

For ai look at magic life - it's part of TUI. There's a selection of restaurants at each, lots of sports etc. we did fuerterentura but there's other locations.
