Mountain Hiking Summer Resort Recommendations with teens please

It’s for next summer for a week with dc 16 and 17. We’ve been to Chamonix and most of the French ski resorts before. Done Mayrhofen and Dolomites (Cortina) pre kids but we are not excluding those areas.

I keep going round in circles! Would like easy public transport, big mountains, nice town with options for food. White water rafting. Something to do on days when we need a break from hiking.

We’ve looked at loads of websites but really want some personal stories. For example Solden in Austria was top of the list but not sure if it’s a big enough town.

Help please!

depends on your budget but you can't beat the Jungfrau region of switzerland. Possibilities for adventure sports, glacier walks, high mountains, two day hikes with a hut stop overnight but plenty of tourist type stuff and good hotels/restaurants.

Have you considered Slovenia as well? We went to Bohinj, but Bled would suit you better if you want a big town. You can get the bus to Ljubljana if the weather isn’t great.

St Johann in tirol, Austria.

Solden is good for hiking and great public transport up an be down the bakery, but a bit limited for restaurants. About half were closed in this summer. Enough supermarkets and bakeries were open. The mountain biking looks amazing though!

Up and down the valley, not bakery!

Saas Fee - climbing, ziplines, via ferrata, summer skiing on glacier, white water in the valley

Thanks for the thoughts so far.

we did originally think of Bled and Bohinj but want bigger mountains.
And although we are not really on a budget, I think I would prefer to get more from our money so as wonderful as Switzerland is, it’s probably out due to costs.

Off to look at St Johann!

interseting about Solden, thank you.

Kitzbuehel or Zell am See. From both you could get to other resorts easily and Salzburg for a day out.

Norway? Staying in Bergen would give you some lovely scenery and hiking options close by. Not cheap though.

Saalbach-Hinterglemm has lots of mountain hiking, a huge "Go Ape"-style climbing park, zip-wires, an outdoor pool, mountain biking. Cable cars and local buses are free if you stay in accommodation that offers a Joker Card (which is most hotels, B&Bs and apartment providers).

Down the road (20 mins on the bus) is Zell am See - more mountains, lake swimming from lakeside beaches and lidos, a steam train, a mountain roller-coaster at Kaprun, the glacier at Kitzsteinhorn, a wonderful Spa at Tauern Spa. KItzbuhel and Salzburg are easy to reach by train for day trips.

White water rafting is at Lofer (Base Camp is the provider) - 30 mins by bus from Zell am See.

Zell am See is the bigger, busier town but is in danger of getting too busy in the summer after recently being voted one of the prettiest towns in the world - we just prefer Saalbach as it is a bit quieter without being too small. There are also a couple of good bakeries 😉

Thanks for the Saalbach details, really helpful - definitely feels like a better option to Solden

Seefeld Austria is good
Lots of walking all levels you used to be able to get a card and then stamp it at certain places then you could collect bronze silver and gold badges
