Over £1,000 for car rental in America?!?

I've been searching quotes for a 2 week car rental in America over early January and they're coming up over £1.2K!!!

Does this seem ludicrous to anyone else?

The pickup and drop off locations are different which is probably increasing costs slightly but still!!

Is there another solution here I'm not thinking of?

@kelce we just had a similar issue but returned to the same place however got some very good deals from these people in the end and got a car through Thrifty https://www.easyterra.co.uk/?utmcontent=headerrlogoimage

I have hired a car for 9 days for this November, it’s the same pick up and drop off locations and it cost £300.

We paid £500 for 9 days for the cheapest car in rural France (Limoges) last month. Prices have soared since Covid.

It's got crazy expensive since COVID. Same size vehicle and duration cost double in the UK in early 2023 vs late 2019. Almost £1k for 2 weeks, vs £475 in 2019!

It’s hugely variable. I’m currently looking at less than £500 for an intermediate SUV for 13 days from LAX in January through Alamo using Alamo Brits. This includes CDW etc. One way hire can be more expensive depending on which states you’re travelling between. You need to shop around a bit.

I've got some good deals for car hire in the US through Costco in the past. If you're a member, it's worth a look.
