Salcombe birthday lunch

9 replies

It’s my mum’s 80th in the spring. She lived in Salcombe as a young woman and wants to go there for the day for her birthday. Salcombe has changed A LOT in that time (it never used to be quite so Made In Chelsea/artisan gin) and I’m not sure about where to take her.
Any suggestions please for an unassuming lunch venue, big enough for about 10 people?
She has some mobility issues so lots of stairs is a no. She’s also very deaf so ideally somewhere not too noisy.
The ideal venue would be a bit rough round the edges, open fire, crab sandwiches and then Salcombe Dairy ice cream for pudding.
She wants to be in the town centre rather then North Sands/South Sands.

Basically I want 1970s Salcombe, not 2020s Salcombe!

Victoria Inn

@Forgottenmyphone
Unfortunately no crab or Salcombe Dairy on the menu. Looks right otherwise though.

Umm, Kingsbridge?!

Ferry Inn maybe? Hope your mum has a lovely birthday.

Winking prawn?

Penelopepisspot · 21/10/2023 14:07

Good suggestions but it’s a firm town centre location requirement - otherwise the Winking Prawn would have been my choice.

Not rough around the edges but I love the Harbour hotel (not the Beach club, the other one). Then after that walk to the Salcombe Dairy ice cream shop for ice cream and to buy some of their chocolate to take home.

I just checked the menu and they do crab and Salcombe Dairy ice cream plus have fabulous views.

Thank you. I would happily go there but my mum would be put off by its boujiness.

I think there will need to be some compromises made!
