Alpine type break but not to ski?!

Looking to go away in December. Really fancy a cosy lodge type break in or around the Alps but not to ski. Can anyone recommend anywhere that might fit the bill that's not a typical ski resort?

We went to chamonix and it was bloody perfect!

Grindelwald, Interlaken, Chamonix- all amazing. I've never skied but loved these places. Great trains in Switzerland.

I’d recommend you borrow snowshoes and sticks, it’s easy and great exercise and brilliant crunching along in deep snow

Thank you so much for the suggestions so far, I'll be googling them all later on!

Try inntravel or interhome. Plenty of ski resorts won't be up and running until Christmas but still be pretty.

I’d recommend Chamonix in the French Alps.

You can fly into Geneva and get a direct bus at the airport. It’s around 1 hour on the bus.

You won’t be disappointed.

To everyone recommending Chamonix - it looks as though as my brother, sister in law and their son (2) will be coming with us wherever we go... is it suitable for a 2 year old?

Chamonix is quite a big town, short transfer with lots going on. Not the prettiest though as the town is within a valley but there are smaller resorts along from the town itself. There are often playgrounds but be careful about altitude for a young toddler. We ere advised not to take 18mo across the Mer du Glace for example.
