January City break

I'm really really tempted to look for a city break for the first week of Jan- 4th-8th ish probably. I'm tempted by Rome as we've never been, but don't know whether to go further afield and get nicer weather or just accept that it will be cool but should at least by drier than UK.
Is there anywhere else that's close ish but should be warmer than the UK that is fun for a city break? I hear canary islands bandied around a lot but I don't know if that's more for a fly and flop holiday when it's a bit warmer...

Marrakech or Seville would be nice in January

DH's birthday is in January, & when I've looked in the past for a city break all the places that interest me don't have flights.

Las Palmas is supposed to be nice, capital of Gran Canaria. My DH went last year, it would be warm, there’s history, shops, beaches and regular flights!
