Hotel in the centre of Munich

We’re looking at staying in Munich for 4 days next October half term. I’m going round in circles trying to decide where to stay. We want central, for 3 of us. DS will be 10.

I’m looking for a 3 star hotel or basic holiday let as I know Munich is expensive but how to differentiate between basic and crap? Any recommendations please?

Not sure what your budget is but we stayed at this aparthotel earlier in May and it was great: https://www.lockeliving.com/en/munich/schwan-locke. They have small kitchens in each room. Their breakfast service is a bit meh so maybe eat in your room or go out for breakfast during the day, especially if you're there on a weekend for the markets.

Home is where the art is. Welcome to your new mid-century-inspired base in the Bavarian capital, minutes from the site of Oktoberfest.

We stayed at the Familienhotel Augustin earlier this year which was very reasonable and had a great breakfast, the kids loved the rooms. It's not super super central (as in the old town) but is near the Oktoberfest sites.

There are a couple of Living Hotels in Munich which are quite central and have a little kitchen area in each room.

I've stayed in a Motel One in three or four German cities (not Munich tbf) and found it a reliable chain with v good breakfast.

We stayed in Haus im Tal, which has a brilliant location so close to the main square and food market. The rooms are sparse with a kind of industrial architecture, but clean and comfortable. We had one with a double bed and sofa bed in a curtained area which was fine for 2 adults & 2 teens. Getting there was so easy from the airport, jump on the train directly to Marienenplatz and walk about 3 minutes. They do breakfast for extra, but to be honest there are so many options in the food market we just did that. They do offer a free welcome drink though in the rooftop reception. Would definitely recommend.
