Christmas short haul/ British holiday with a festival thrown in.

Hi,
My husband and I were just discussing the lul between Christmas and New Year and were thinking of going on holiday!
Does anyone know of anywhere which is short haul or in Britain that they would recommend?
Somewhere that feels fun and/or with some kind of festival. Or somewhere with nice restaurants? Lively atmosphere and lovely to look at?
I know that's a lot to ask!

One year we went to Brighton between Christmas and New year and had a great time. Though Fuerteventura was the best one!

How about Cardiff? No festival but there will be an incredible atmosphere and great fun with the Winter Wonderland, Christmas Market, the Light Trail at Bute Park, Cardiff Castle... you can get the river boat down to Cardiff Bay and the T4 bus will take you to the stunning Brecon Breacons National Park. The restaurant scene is also really amazing!
