Vienna in August with a teen - twin centre?

Hi All, I’m going to be organising my summer holiday to fit in a visit to Vienna to see Taylor Swift. Just me and DD (she will be 16). I don’t want to twin it with Budapest as recently visited there (loved it). Probably 7-10 days, not too expensive. Was thinking Salzburg, Venice, Prague or Munich or maybe just relaxing followed by the city bit. Any ideas? ✈️

How about a couple of days in Vienna, a couple of days in Salzburg, and a couple of days walking/rafting/lake swimming/biking etc. in the mountains (e.g. Zell am See, Saalbach) if you want a bit of an activity holiday as well as just sightseeing.

There are plenty of flights back to the UK from Salzburg.

Yes I’m thinking that might be the most manageable. Zell Am See seems like it might be nice plus easily accessible by train to/from Salzburg. 😊

We went by boat from Vienna to Bratislava, then onto Budapest by train.

Ah sorry, just seen that you don’t fancy Budapest again.

Zell am See can also be reached by bus from Salzburg (Postbus 260) - it doesn't take much longer than the train as it takes a different route. Better still, the bus stops at Salzburg Airport on the way into Salzburg, so if the timings are OK for your flight departure, this is a good option and it only costs about €14 for a single ticket.

We recently had a long weekend on Bratislava and did a day trip to Vienna. Bratislava was so lovely, it was really chilled and not too busy. There is a city beach in the summer too.

Few days in Salzburg followed by a few days in Zell or Venice?

Bratislava is good for a couple of days. It's only about an hour by train from Vienna. You can also travel by boat along the river for a nicer journey there or back. There is a good bus tour of Bratislava available, which is handy, as it is quite hilly. Of course, you can travel into Austria from Vienna too. Graz isn't too far, and has some pretty areas around it. Another possibility is to travel to Slovenia, for a slightly less well known destination. If in Vienna, a bus ride into the woods is good (especially if you get a travel pass), with some pretty villages en route.
