Sunday activity near Oxford St., London?

As someone on Mumsnet ALWAYS knows the answer, though I would pose the question here ... this Sunday, we are taking ds1 and ds2 into London to meet our old nanny from when we lived abroad. Planning to have lunch at Bodean's on Poland St and then look at the lights on Regent St. Anyone have any ideas for occupying ourselves for a bit more of the afternoon, without it costing a fortune or involving massive amounts of travel - could be as simple as which window displays not to miss. Thanks in advance.

How old are your children?

if weather is OK, there is a nice playground at Paddington Gardens, off Marylebone High St. M H St is pretty shopping street, nice christmas lights usually, and it won't be nearly as packed as Regent/Oxford St. (though it's bound to be busy)

but beware, playground closes before dark.

there's a good famers market nearby, just behind the waitrose on M H St, which my dd enjoys, but i think that packs up around lunchtime on sundays.

Thanks for suggestions so far. Aloha, ds's are 6 and nearly 4.

Could you get the bus to the strand to watch the ice skating at Somerset House, or go to Covent Garden where there are stalls and buskers and a big Christmas tree. I really, really want to go to the Frost Fair too! Maybe on Saturday. Would love to take my stepdaughter but she's not with us this weekend - she'd think it was FAB.

I've heard that there is an ice rink in marble arch. its been a while since i was up that way, so can't remember if this is near regent street. Also Hamleys (is this regent street?) but would probably be very busy. Hope this might be of some help.
