My kids are asking to have a city type holiday next summer. They're 17, 15 and 9 and I'll be the only adult. I've been to Barcelona before and I think there's the right things for them to be entertained. I'm thinking 4 nights in the city somewhere then train over for 4 nights in Stige for some chilling. I'll probably have to go air b&b or at least self catering to reduce cost as budget is rather small. So my questions are where to stay in Barcelona to walk to most places or at least easily access transport? I'd like to take them to the football grounds, Olympic stadium, and probably just walk around the outside of the buildings like Gaudi. Is air b&b the right places to look for cheap accommodation? Is there a better beach resort that Stiges nearby? And what sort of accommodation should I be looking for there? Anything else I need to know or consider? THANK YOU! Smile

You could stay in Barceloneta and go to the beach, the city, the stadium etc from there if you want to stay in one place and give Sitges a miss. If Lots going on, full of young people. Paddle boarding, canoeing , beach bars etc. You can rent bikes to get around. I was there earlier in the summer, stayed for a few days in a hotel directly on the beach, and was amazed how it’s developed over the past few years.

Barceloneta seems to have a good number of apartments to rent and plenty of supermarkets for buying supplies. It has good access to the centre of the city but it’s away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. It’s also one of the safest areas.
Poble Sec doesn’t have much in the way of tourist attractions but you will find that accommodation prices are lower and the city centre is only a 10 mi metro ride. El Born is more central and if you look early enough you’ll probably be able to find some reasonably priced accommodation.
Sitges is nice but with teens I’d probably look at staying in Salou for the PortVentura theme parks! And fly home from Reus

In 2021 Barcelona became the first European city to ban short term rentals like those that airbnb offer. Therefore you will need hotel accommodation.

I believe it banned the short term renting of a room in a persons home, rather than say a full apartment.

I've just checked on booking dot com and there are plenty of apartments.

Barcelona is my favourite city. I like staying in the Exaimple district or near Sagrada Familia because of all the beautiful buildings. Plus you are close to most of what you want to see but away from the over touristy bits.

I've just found Apartments Saint Jordi which has 3 bedrooms, a double, a twin and a single. About £800 for 4 nights at the end of July.

This isn’t true. OP you’ll have no problem finding an Airbnb for 4 nights.

Thank you sooo much for all your replies. That other beach location looks great and love the sound of the park. Think I understand the places to stick to in the city. There's not a lot of air bnbs in those locations but there are some nearby and so those links to the other apartments is super useful. I feel a proper evening of research coming on Grin
