Hotels and restaurants in Athens

Looking for a hotel in Athens for my husband's milestone birthday in July.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice hotel? Doesn't need a pool just want somewhere central so we can go sightseeing.
And recommendations for restaurants too please.
We're thinking of going for a shooting range on his actual birthday so if anyone has any experience of this, I'd love to hear about it.

we stayed at the Brown Kubic, recommend the hotel but not the area.

in terms of restaurants:
Highly recommend Theta near the Agora.

we also had a lovely lunch at Opos Palia, around the corner from the Acropolis Museum.

AVOID the ones on the strip outside the Acropolis Museum. Awful & tourist traps. We stupidly went to one and regretted it. Only came back on Sunday so it’s fresh in my memory!

More generally, go to the acropolis (if you want to) as early as you can to avoid the crowds, especially if there’s cruise ships in.

I’d also really recommend Athens Free Walking Tours - https://www.freetour.com/athens/athens-free-walking-tour

hope you have a lovely time!

we stayed in Hotel Adonis. Reasonably priced. Very very central. Nice rooms very comfortable but not flash. Can get acropolis view for a bit extra. Lovely bar /breakfast area with fabulous view of acropolis.

we enjoyed the rooftop restaurants plaka side but didn’t take note of their names.

Have a fabulous trip!

We stayed in the Electra Metropolis when we went to Athens in 2018. Good, central, breakfast with wonderful view over the acropolis. It did have a rooftop pool but as it was October we didn't use it.

I can't remember the names of the restaurant we liked for the evenings. We had quite a few lunches in a vegetarian restaurant called Avocado (i think I've got the right one).

In July, you’ll definitely want a pool!

Thanks for the great advice and recommendations, I will have a look at them all.
The second leg of our holiday is pool based so I thought maybe we don't need one in the hotel as I was hoping for it to be more sight seeing based. Of course, a pool wouldn't hurt :)

@GlosGal we stayed at the Brown Kubic too, we only came about about 3 weeks ago!

I agree, hotel was lovely, and has a rooftop with a few loungers but yes the area is a little sketchy getting there.

Athens was great, we'd never been before and really enjoyed it. Have a fab time

Coco-mat Athens - lovely hotel for a special occasion (it has a pool and very close to the Acropolis). Lots of nice restaurants nearby!

Thank you for the recommendations, I will look them up :)
