Pantanal in Brazil - has anyone been?

Considering a few days in the Pantanal as part of a bigger Brazil holiday.

Has anyone been and if so, did you do north or south, and which lodge did you stay in?

Distances are huge and we will only be able to do either north or south. Jaguar sightings would be nice but Port Jofre is too expensive (and we are going too old to camp etc).

Looking to see as much variety of wildlife and birds as possible.

I was there in 2015 and booked a tour with a company called Pantanal Eco Explorer. I managed to find the tour details in my inbox. Here you go:

1 – we confirm that you have reservation for a 3 days – 2 night pantanal tour on February 9 – 11 for 03 people based in one Triple room, operated by Pantanal Ecoexplorer.

2 – your guide will meet you at your hotel in Cuiaba on February 9 at
07.30 ready to depart for the Pantanal, and he will bring you back to Cuiaba on February 11 at 4 pm, with plenty of time for your reteurn flight to Sao Paulo.

3 – Check the trip Itinerary below:

@Eebygumball DH is quite keen to go but we would want to see jaguars. It’s the big sighting there and largely the reason for going so lodge and area would matter to us snd we wouldn’t go all that way and be disappointed. As for where to stay, Wildlife Worldwide website will give you the facts. They know where to go to give you the best chance to see the jaguars. We always use uk based companies. Easier to deal with if anything goes wrong!

Thanks both.
@sipsqueak did you enjoy it? What did you see? I’m leaning towards the North as apparently the Transpantaneira road is almost a wildlife tour in itself and we should hopefully see lots of wildlife along the way.
