Praia da Luz

I thought I'd canvas for opinions...Mark Warner still have holidays to Praia da Luz, which is supposedly a nice town with excellent childcare facilities etc. DS is only 5 months old and we haven't been on a proper holiday yet. I have reservations, which dp thinks are ridiculous about going to this resort for obvious reasons. Would anyone consider going for a holiday here??? Am I being over-sensitive? Obviously, I wouldn't be leaving him unsupervised (ds, not dp)....Opinions welcomed!

Just don't leave DS with David Warner nannies...see yesterday's (many) threads.

sorkycake · 06/03/2008 21:23

Never, never, never!

zog · 06/03/2008 21:24

?

What threads?

llareggub · 06/03/2008 21:28

I meant Mark Warner, not David Warner, obviously.

zog, there were many, many threads last night on the BBC2 TV programme that uncovered dodgy practices in (among others) Mark Warner childcare.

Just dont go out and leave kids alone would be my advice! Seriously. im sure its lovely there.

LynetteScavo · 06/03/2008 21:34

I wouldn't feel comfortable. You are going on holiday, adn want to be 100% relaxed, but I'm not sure you'll be able to.

I haven't seen all the threads about poor child care that were floating about yesterday, but in my experience, on the one Mark Warner Holiday I've taken, I was happy with the care my son received. (And I am VERY fussy about child care)

Are holidays there quite cheep now?

Hulababy · 06/03/2008 21:35

I personally wouldn't use the childcre options for a baby of this age, but the actual resort wouldn't put me off.

LynetteScavo · 06/03/2008 21:35

Was the child care at Mark Warner shown to be dodgy, or was it the lack of CRB check, and the ilegal status English nannies working abroad?

zog · 06/03/2008 21:36

Oh thanks

tearinghairout · 06/03/2008 21:38

I went to Praia da Luz a while back when I was a travel agent. It's very nice, modern, in fact I went all along the Algarve coast and most of it is lovely, but wouldn't you feel a bit sad/uncomfortable there?

Personally I would pick a different resort, one with no unpleasant connotations. Carveiro is pretty, and I liked Olhos de Agua and Lagos as well. Albufeira is nice out of season.

krc · 06/03/2008 21:50

Yep, holidays there are (relatively) cheap now. Carmenelectra, I really agree with you that it shouldn't be an issue but...although I wouldn't be leaving ds, I think my ability to enjoy the holiday would be affected, like you say, lynettescavo and tearinghairout.

I think i would still go there. After all there is a child missing here in the UK isnt there?

ingles2 · 06/03/2008 22:25

We went to the MW pdeL resort not long before the MM incident.
Actually compared to the other MW resorts (we've done greece, lakatira and kalamata) it wasn't very nice and we wouldn't go back. The layout wasn't good, the facilities weren't good, the food wasn't good, and lots of other (cheaper) companies used the same facilities. Lots of other people were complaining.
