How hot is Dubai at New Year!

Thinking of booking a break in Dubai over New Year and wondering how hot it is? Looking for hot enough to swim and sunbathe but it says the average high in December is 26 which is not actually that hot. Anyone been?

That sounds about right but honestly we always thought the weather around Xmas was one of the nicest times of year. You can swim all year round and there's still plenty of sun but it's not so hot you can't stay outside.

It's a bit cool for swimming - and you might find some water parks are shut.
I'd suggest a heated pool.

It's nice, but drops over night, and early mornings can be chilly. Mid 20s sounds right as a max - but that is the lunch time - early afternoon temperature.

Thanks Falling. Same question about the Canaries. Am I right in thinking they're even chillier?

I've been to Dubai and Tenerife over Christmas & New Year and they were very similar temperature wise - low 20's. It seemed a fair bit chillier at night in Tenerife than Dubai though, did need a cardigan.

Thanks Pinkpond. Is it worth the expense and hassle of travelling to Tenerife do you think if not that warm?

I've been to Dubai and Lanzarote in December. Both places are cool in the mornings (Dubai is misty and sometimes foggy) but both heat up during the day, but get windy and cool in the evenings.

I would say Dubai is definitely warmer though

We’ve been at Christmas a few times, always lovely weather. Slightly cooler in evenings if you’re sitting outside (might need a cardigan) but days are sunbathing weather.

winterrabbit · 18/10/2023 22:28

Shadow, did you mean to Dubai or Canaries?

I much preferred Tenerife to Dubai. For me it was warm enough to sunbathe.

Dubai. We’ve been for Christmas and new year twice.

We were there at xmas last year. Some days were very pleasant other days you definitely wondered why you were outside in the midday sun (theme park days). It did rain while we were there. We never found the pools cold. The days we went to the legoland waterpark we rented the cabanas as it was so hot. If you go to global village then you’d probably need a hoody at most for a small child in the late evening but adults (from the uk) survive.

The rain was only an issue in terms of getting a taxi.
