We are thinking of going away in October half term and would like your wisdom as to where else we could look at apart from Canaries for a beach and sunbathe type holiday!

dubai!... hot and kids facilities are better than anywhere

Sharm, Taba or El Gouna in Egypt. A good all inclusive hotel will have activities for the children and of course you will have snorkeling in the red sea on your doorstop

Cyprus!!! Lovely time of year out here.

Egypt or Dubai, done both in October half term. Great weather and the sea beautifully warm.

Eilat is lovely, especially Coral Beach which is great for snorkelling.

Come to Kenya, we need more tourists! Mombasa would be perfect in October and you can get good cheap direct flights at the moment....

I'd second Egypt, Dubai and Kenya for October. Not all of the Caribbean is that hot in October abd you can catch the tail end of the rainy season (as we did in the Bahamas in October 2006 - it really wasn't good weather all week actually). For that matter we were in Florida (not Orlando - we stayed south of Sarasota on the Gulf Coast) last October half term and had lots of rain there too - probably 50/50 sun and rain for the 11 days we were there. I've also been to Cyprus and Turkey in October and it wasn't quite hot enough for me (no rain though) as it gets cool from mid afternoon. Of course it's pretty much the luck of the draw but I would err on the side of caution if you want HOT. Dubai was fab weather in October but Egypt would be cheaper. Have a look at Hurghada as well as Taba, Sharm and El Gouna. Probably cheaper to book flights and accommodation (try medhotels or similar) separately.
