2 Kids Under 3 - Take 2 Strollers on holiday?

Hi everyone,

We are due to go on our first holiday in November as a family of 4. We have DS aged 2.5years and DD aged 2 months.

I'm wondering whether to take 1 stroller for the toddler and a baby carrier for baby OR take 2 strollers (option 2 would mean buying another stroller). What have others done before? Pros and cons of each option?

The idea of 1 stroller and 1 carrier made sense at first but we are going to Hong Kong where we will constantly be on the move around the city. I now can't imagine carrying DD in the carrier all day long and also don't feel comfortable with my toddler walking as it's really crowded/busy in Hong Kong and he's at the phase where he will just run off.

Any advice would be much appreciated :-)

Unfortunately I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and get another stroller - I think you're going to be in bits using the carrier for the whole trip and even if your toddler is an excellent walker he is going to slow you down considerably and you aren't going to have much chance to let him rest etc

I would definitely get another stroller, otherwise you will be exhausted by the end of the day. When we went away we didn't take one as our 3 year old walks everywhere but on holiday it was another story! Really regretted that lol. Plus it will make your life easier at the airport etc

If you're 3 yr old is likely to need a nap during the times when you're out and about then yes I think you'll need 2 strollers. If not would a buggy board work?

Definitely take 2 strollers or a double! We went away when 2 of my 3 were 3 years 9 months and 19 months and the 3 (almost 4yo) regularly napped due to the heat.

Take a small carrier for baby who may well feel really unsettled in the humidity and want the comfort of you. Also take two strollers. For the baby I recommend the Joie Nitro E because it almost lies flat which is really important for the baby. I didn't take a stroller and my proper pram because it's really expensive and I've seen them get really thrown around once you leave them at the gate.

This is based on my recent two week trip with two under 2.5 including a baby. Toddler did a lot of walking but was also in and out of the stroller as well as clipped onto it with a reins backpack in busier places.

It may depend on whereabouts you stay in Hong Kong. I found wearing a carrier made me very hot... but there were so many steps everywhere that a buggy would have been worse.

Get a double buggy then they can nap - even if they don't at home on holidays it gives you much more freedom for going out in the day and/or staying out late.
