What’s the budget and how old are the DC?

DibbleDooDah · 28/09/2023 07:32

Honestly - avoid Cancun at Easter as it coincides with US university spring breaks. Thousands of students travel there with the sole purpose of getting drunk and having a good time on the AI. I went in my early 20s and had a fab time but to this day will remember several families and a honeymoon couple in tears to the rep because it was totally unsuitable.

There are literally hundreds of companies offering spring break package trips there.

I would go to one of the quieter resorts in the same area instead and avoid Cancun like the plague!!!!

Just come back

This hotel has MONKEYS , raccoons, deer, and capybara all roaming free in the hotel grounds, they also have flamingos and parrots
It has an amazing lagoon, all iincllusive with choice of restaurants included

It's called OCCIDENTAL XCERET

We bought it with Travelbag which may have been cheaper but I know British Airways holidays also provide it, flying in to cancun

The place was amazing please google it x

flutterby1 · 03/10/2023 15:03

Have you booked anything?

Applesaarenttheonlyfruit · 03/10/2023 15:39

We are going to Dreams Tulum, not my choice but we’ll positioned for trips

BasinHaircut · 04/10/2023 17:03

We went to Grand Sirenis in August, was really lovely, in an hour from Cancun tho in Riveira Maya
Lazy river kids were in constantly, large buffets, multiple alacarte restaurants. Large rooms.

It's get a bad rep on the FB groups as people nit-pick about tiniest things

Only issue is they are renovating some parts next year, so not sure if this would affect you.

We went there in February it's absolutely gorgeous, the wildlife in the grounds are amazing and it's next to Xcatret Park (it's an eco waterpark, Google it!) you can buy unlimited tickets which means you can visit the waterpark as many times as you wish during your stay. Unfortunately Tui have recently stopped dong packages there. DO NOT BOOK WITH DESTINANTION 2!!! We booked our package with them only for them to change the return flight number and not inform us, we missed our flight home and had to book another one! Took us several months to be reimbursed for it.

Xcaret is fab! Soooo much money tho, I was really reluctant; but it was for my sons birthday and it was the best day.

DibbleDooDah · 04/10/2023 20:31

@BasinHaircut You’ll avoid Spring Break madness if you go to Tulum, Xcaret etc. The crazy stuff is largely contained within Cancun.

BG2015 · 04/10/2023 21:21

I would check your dates. We went during Easter this year and Spring break was over. Don't rule it out until you double check the dates.

Still lots of loud Americans about though Grin

DibbleDooDah · 05/10/2023 06:41

Spring Break kind of rolls from the first week of March to the end of the first week in April 2024. It all depends on the university. Mid to end of March is when it’s at peak.

It doesn’t always coincide with Easter (particularly if we have an April Easter), but next year it definitely does.

Dreams hotels are fab. We've done one on the Pacific coast and this year went to dreams riviera cancun. They offer so much more than your usual European AI resort.

Thanks, that's good to know. When you say so much more, what do you mean? I've never been AI except 3 days in Cuba once (which the kids declared the best part of our trip)

VisaWoes · 07/10/2023 16:50

I’ve also been to Xcaret Occidental hotel mentioned previously and it was amazing. Best holiday ever. We hired a car and I drove me and Dd about to places like Tulum and Coba and some of the cenotes. The hotel grounds and animals were breathtaking. Xcaret park was the highlight of the holiday. Great memories.

VisaWoes · 07/10/2023 16:52

We had a room in a jungle block with a balcony and we had monkeys on the balcony every day. I had to slam the door shut or they’d have been in the room!

Things like being able to eat in any restaurant, any night without a reservation. Usually in European AI's you get a couple of reservations per week in the Al a cartes and then have to eat in the buffet the rest of the time.

Waiter service at the pool and beach with brand name spirits. They have a huge selection of drinks.

There are absolutely loads of activities on at the hotel. My son loved kids club too which had a climbing wall, bungee trampolining area etc.

Room service is included. The customer service from the staff is great.

I've stayed in a few other hotels in Mexico and the Caribbean and never been to a hotel in Europe that even come close (although to be fair I haven't tried an ikos yet).

I like the look of the xcaret hotel though...maybe next time!

Brycare · 01/12/2023 18:41

Hi guys.
sorry to hijack - but could I ask a question about weather in that part of Mexico please…
we were initially planning on a two week at Easter 2024 staying in Isla Mujeres & Playa del Carmen.
That is not happening now so am
considering Easter 2025 which is several weeks later than Easter 2024 (probably would be going around 13th April for two weeks).
Is there much of a difference weather wise between March and April?
Two adults and two kids who would be 6 and 8 by then.
TIA
