Need ideas for somewhere suitable for me, DH and DS (20 months) to spend a fun few days. Either hotel or self catering. some place with stuff to do/see in the surrounding area, and no more than 3 hrs drive from Glasgow. Please help me cos I'm rubbish at finding things, Thanks in advance

Lake District is nice - lots of scenery plus villagey/towns/shops

Alibobster · 05/03/2008 14:22

I had thought of there Iklboo - can you recommend any accomodation?

I'll give you a link to my friends holiday cottage company. Just bear with me....

DiscoDizzy · 05/03/2008 14:28

here it is

I suppose it depends on which part of the lake district you want to go, Penrith town is on the M6 and is good for the northern lakes, Keswick is obviously good (another 30 mins on from Penrith), Cockermouth's nice for the Western Lakes, Winderemere is obviously good too and Kendal for the Southern Lakes areas.

Ooh - Ambleside is nice, Windermere - Grange over sands is quite nice but maybe a bit quiet

(awaiting link to DiscoDizzy's friends place cos it's our 5th wedding anniversary next year and we fancy a mucky weekend in t'lakes)

Alibobster · 05/03/2008 14:35

Cheers DiscoDizzy, I'll have a look at that

No probs, if you want hotels I could link the ones I know of:

Penrith
here. Nice hotel (used to be member of leisure club)
but there's also a travellodge just outside Penrith

Cockermouth
here. Had nice meals here, very accessible.
also a travellodge just outside

Keswick
here got married here before it was refurbished. About 4 miles out of Keswick though in secluded position.

Don't really know any in Windermere but there are hundreds.

Kendal
here. Haven't been here but heard it was nice.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Hi everyone -Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - I know my request was vague so I really appreciate the efforts you have gone to to come up with ideas for me
