Kalkan

We’re thinking of going to Kalkan next summer with our 3 children (9, 7, 4). Is it a good place to go with kids? Are there nice beaches etc? We’ll be staying in a villa with a pool. Is there a better place to go? We want to be able to walk to a bar and restaurant and be near the sea!

We went when our kids were a bit older than yours (9, 11, 13) and really enjoyed it. We were also staying in a villa with a pool. It's a nice place to wander round, good restaurants, eating out is very good value. The nearest beach is nice but not amazing. I'd recommend a trip to Saklikent Gorge.

It’s a lovely resort, nice restaurants and a pretty authentic atmosphere - but the beach in Kalkan is very pebbly and not huge. There’s a much nicer beach at Kaputaş but it can get very very busy in summer. The beach at Seyrek Çakil is also beautiful but it’s not great for little ones as it’s not the easiest to play in the water / swim.

I would definitely recommend thinking about hiring a car.

The beach is stony, but clean and nice. There are a number of very nice 'beach clubs' around which are basically platforms out over the rock/sea and they're great - some better for kids than others but all good. Walking into town from your villa - definitely depends exactly what part of Kalkan it is. There are loads of villas these days, some quite high up the hillside from the town and harbour, even across the road at the top (the D400) so you want to be below that for sure. Where exactly is the villa you're looking at?

Forgot to mention Patara beach too which is big and good for swimming.

Thanks so much for all of this. Are any beach clubs better than others? We are looking at this villa https://abnb.me/EGfmFrVepDb which seems to tick lots of boxes… and the owner is lovely. We don’t mind getting taxis as apparently they’re cheap and driving sounds a bit scary!

Kalkan is fun and the beach clubs are nice
For a sandy beach day you could drive out to Patara beach which is wild and gorgeous. You would need to take your own stuff though

Definitely not.. just got back.
It's the most awful holiday ever had...and we holiday 6 times a year.. just glad it wasn't our only holiday. We had hire car from airport. Private luxury villa. If you are fit and like walking up and down steep hills and loud noisy beach clubs packed in like sardines.. no near by nice beaches ... being hassled .. and aren't bothered what you cannot buy in the tiny supermarkets and like horrible food ..nearly getting run over and watching head on road traffic RTA's because there is no road laws.. then go.. but seriously do your research.. I'm still in bed a week later.. I'm so ill from being there.
