Where have all the small Greek hotels gone ??!

I'm a fan of AI, done it many times in Spain, Canaries etc but the one time we did it in Greece it just didn't work. The hotel was lovely, but they clearly struggled with mass producing of food rather than individual meals which Greece are amazing for. Snacks for kids were a bit rubbish and the wine was watered down. And now I can't find any lovely hotels doing B&B, they all seem to be doing AI? I understand them being worried about being left behind and having to do AI because of the TUI hotels, Sani etc but we are looking for a nice medium sized hotel near a village with some tavernas nearby. Budget about £5K for B&B for 2 adults and 1 child (13). Thanks

Not sure why you're struggling - TUI small and friendly have loads of Greek hotels on the list in nice locations. What's making you rule ones out?

Loads also with Jet2. Stayed in a few in zante & kefalonia the last few years.

EasterMummie · 24/09/2023 20:18

How extensively have you searched as Greece has loads of these.

Steev · 24/09/2023 21:10

It's more unusual to find A/I on the islands I'm looking at. Too many tavernas to go All inc

Parga is great for little places like this.

cherryassam · 24/09/2023 21:54

I can think of places which fit the bill, although somewhat depending what you mean by medium. Have you got any particular places you’d like to go?

some initial ideas:

Melina Oasis, Kassiopi, Corfu
Kantouni Beach Boutique Hotel, Kantouni, Kalymnos
Angela Suites Boutique Hotel, Sissi, Crete
Elivi Resort, Koukounaries, Skiathos

Mykonos and Santorini.

McIntire · 24/09/2023 21:58

AI has wiped them out

FusionChefGeoff · 24/09/2023 22:27

Zante star apartments sounds like it would fit we went in May it was FAB

Are you set on booking a package rather than flights and hotel separately? It’s quite easy to book everything independently if you don’t find what you want through the tour operators and there are plenty of small hotels in Greece.

MiniCooperLover · 25/09/2023 18:30

Thanks, that's really helpful. I forgot to say I'd prefer to avoid TUI if possible (as we don't live near Gatwick), Jet2 have been great for the last few years but I'm happy to book separately. What I'd like to find is something middle ground that's near a village for Tavernas etc. so any further suggestions very helpful, thank you.

Try Skiathos, v few AI there

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 25/09/2023 19:42

I nearly always stay b&b in Greece but often in smaller hotels. There are plenty of options on tui and jet2 though if that’s who you’re happy booking with.

geoger · 25/09/2023 19:52

Not sure where you’ve been looking but Greece is full of hotels that do B&B.
which island or area are you looking at?
Try Lefkada or Stoupa in the Peloponnesus

Pilateshappy · 25/09/2023 19:56

Palatino Hotel Kefalonia seems to be exactly what you want :)

gogomoto · 25/09/2023 19:57

There's 412 b&b hotels on budget on TUI first week august avoiding Gatwick (not sure what your preferred airport is?) many have pools and facilities, close to facilities etc. Greece is definitely the easiest for b&b

Loads in Rhodes, try the Lindia Thalassa or Pefki Island.
