Destination between UK and Australia in July

Hi, I am trying to arrange a holiday which will allow us to meet up with family based in Australia. Plan is to try and get somewhere roughly halfway so the obvious destinations are Aisa. Looking at Thailand but given we have identified the first 2 weeks of July 2024 as the overlap for all the families involved, I'm worried it will be too wet at that time.. Can anyone suggest anywhere else? Thanks in advance

There are 2 ways to fly between UK and Australia! How about California?

cherryassam · 24/09/2023 15:40

Some options that came to mind:

Gili Islands
Bali
Malaysian Borneo
Koh Samui
Singapore
Sri Lanka
Maldives

Ohmylovejune · 24/09/2023 15:42

Hawaii? Possibly a tad closer to Australia.

ShanghaiDiva · 24/09/2023 15:42

Bali, Malaysian Borneo and central Vietnam all dry then.
singapore is also an option.

MetaMette · 24/09/2023 15:46

California or West Coast America is more or less halfway.

If you're flying to Hawaii from the UK you might as well go to Australia, easier and cheaper.

We meet our Aussie family in Bali in late June - weather is lovely then. Can be a little wet but always clears up! Thailand would also be fine...rain usually only lasts for an hour a day (massive generalisation but seems to be how it goes IME)

finkwink · 24/09/2023 16:31

What about French Polynesia?

Kittykelt · 24/09/2023 17:39

Some good suggestions, thanks. I quite fancy Vietnam if anyone has any recommendations for resorts/accommodation that would suit adults and teens that would be much appreciated! Reassuring to hear Thailand might still be OK too weather-wise.
I do like the idea of California too but suspect we might all need a bigger budget for that....a possibility though

I think Koh Samui side of Thailand is better weather wise than Phuket side in July. Have you looked at Mauritius? There are direct flights a few times a week from Perth. Flight time wise it's pretty much in the middle, but time zone wise it's better for UK based people. We went to the Maldives for 4 nights on the way back from Australia this time, it's not very budget friendly but the weather was kind and as it's almost 9000km to Sydney and to UK it was pretty much in the middle and perfect for breaking the journey. Sri Lanka may also be a good option for you, I'm not sure what July rainfall is like though.

We met Australians in Mauritius who had travelled to meet English family.

Would definitely be somewhere in South East Asia for me. With Thailand, if you’re looking for the lowest chances of rain, hit the lower Gulf provinces of Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Songkhla. Enjoy!

lovemenomore · 24/09/2023 19:48

We went to Phuket this July - 5th for 2 weeks. We had 2 days of rain the rest of the time was fab weather.

lovemenomore · 24/09/2023 19:49

It was the eastern side we went - an island of Phuket called Coconut Island.

Kittykelt · 24/09/2023 20:22

Thanks for the ideas, a bit more research to do now!

recommend this hotel in Hoi An in Central Vietnam

have stayed here several times. This area is dry and hot in the summer. DaNang is the closest international airport.

Hoi A Central Boutique and Spa was very nice central Vietnam. Also beaches at Da Nang and Nha Trang. There is a theme park there called Vinpearl which teens would love
