Anyone been and can recommend?

Looking for a Greek island we haven't visited before. For July next year, DH, me and Ds17 (not a party animal though). Want nice beaches, bit of life in the evenings, nice bars and restaurants and maybe water sports.

We love Zante and Kefalonia and we're thinking Lefkada????

thanks

Ive been to Lefkada twice. First time in 2001 before DS was even a twinkle in the eye and then me and FS went on 2018 when he was 13.

We had a lovely holiday. Stayed in Nidri at George Hotel which is as ideal for us. It’s only small but with a pool, snack bar and late night bar.

It’s not a place for party animals but there’s a good selection of bars and restaurants. There were also street entertainers which my DS enjoyed especially the guy who did football skills.

For reference as you said you loved Kefalonia and Zante, I’ve also been to Lassi and Alykes with my DS and I’d say Nidri is definitely a similar vibe.

Lefkada is beautiful - better than Zante imo. Nidri is really pretty with a fab selection of restaurants and nice places to have a drink after dinner. No rowdy groups or pubs, just lots of families and groups of friends both young and old enjoying themselves. The beaches are lovely- warm, clear and never too busy - mainly shingle but you can get away with not having beach shoes. We stayed at the Captain Stavros which is fab but there’s lots of hotels and apartments available. If you go def try to do one or two boat trips and take trip into Lefkada Town which is really charming. It’s a beautiful island and well worth visiting

Another one who has been to Nidri and would recommend. But the beaches are pebble and not sand if that’s what you’re looking for.

Transfer from airport is also very short which is ideal.

Thank you - we loved Lassi so that's good to know. Buuuut, we really want sandy beaches so thinking cap's on again.

Any other Greek Island suggestions always welcome, we tend to stay as North as possible as we've found Crete, Rhodes etc just get too hot for me.

Have a look at Parga or Stoupa on the mainland. We’ve been to both and enjoyed them. Stoupa in particular has a lovely Sandy beach.

Ive recently come back from Skiathos which is quite tucked away so doesn’t seem to get the extreme heat.

I had a fab holiday in Nidri but it was 35 years ago, it's probably changed a lot.
One thing that hasn't changed is the fact that Levkas is a centre for winsurfing and sailing if you like that sort of thing? I did a one week winsurfing course while we were there.

Skiathos ticks your boxes as well.

We just booked Nidri for next August, so it’s been good to read this thread!
