Anyone been to Budva, Montenegro

Hi,

We are heading to Budva at the start of October, our first proper holiday since both kids went to Uni. We have splashed out on the Iberostar hotel. If anyone has been I'd be very grateful for any recommendations of things to do and places to eat. Also how did you manage the language and are the people friendly?

We are early 50s, vegetarian and love walking. Thankyou

@SarahC50
my parents are Montegrin so I’ve been visiting since before the breakup.
We always stay in Kotor now but 2 years ago we took a few days in Budva after many years of not visiting.
Budva is great, it’s very busy during the Summer with a younger demographic.
I would hire a car (we’ve used piano cars and would again) or get a taxi through Red Taxi and go to Kotor Old Town. There is a hike up the mountain to the top and back, a new cable car attraction, excursion to Lovcen and the Mausoleum, wine tasting
Ostrog Monastery is a further drive but absolutely worth it.
You will be fine with vegetarian food these days, although I wouldn’t say the same if this was even 10 years ago. Montenegro has a meat and fish heavy diet, it’s taken them some time to come around to Vegetarians 😀

A friend has just come back from the Iberostar and loved it. Budva old town is lovely. Trips to kotor and perast are a must. There is a lake too which looks good, Skadar?
Just a drive along the coast is stunning

Not at all! Don’t forget Sveti Stefan (Saint Stefan) is on your doorstep too!

Is that the island with the hotel on it. Are you allowed on that island? It looks beautiful x

And try Kajmak and Ivar (food). Are you

I think everyone has mentioned all the good attractions above. I can also add Porto Montenegro as a smart resort to visit if you're that way.

Just to let you know .... if you are a cat lover ... that the UK charity Kotor Kitties sterilised all the cats on the Budva Iberostar property over the winter. They were the only hotel to let this happen. If you're able, please do say how nice it is that this was done (you should be able to tell the sterilised cats due to their ear-tip).

You will generally find Budva (and the rest of Montenegro) to be over run with street cats so the situation is not so healthy in the rest of the town.

We have stayed in that hotel. Loved it. The views are stunning. We didn't travel far so no recommendations etc for you.

@ItsReallyOnlyMe thankyou for the info re the cats that's really good I'll definitely say to the hotel. Poor things will be breeding all over the place if there are lots of street cats. I wonder why the other hotels didn't agree

@Crackery good to hear the hotel is good. Because it's just the two of us travelling not four we were able to splash out on a lovely hotel. We have booked half board. Looking forward to the rooftop pool and bar especially today as in the North Highlands where I live it is rain and gales.
