China advice

We will be travelling to China later this year.

Currently waiting for a letter from the travel agents to apply for our visas. Trying to negotiate the visa application process makes it seem like we do need that letter before we make an appointment as I’m hoping that it confirms our actual hotels and flights - does anyone know if there are lengthy delays for either Edinburgh or Manchester for appointments (we are equidistant from both centres)?

What’s the best way to pay when travelling to fairly major tourist centres: Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and Chengdu - cash or credit cards?

Does anyone know which is the best Sim only phone deal for data roaming?

We went in 2018. Our travel agent arranged the visas & we did not have to attend in person, Perhaps things have changed since then, but check why your agent can't do this for you.

They don’t seem to offer that as a service, but they also don’t seem to be too quick at providing the letter for us to make the application for us either 😕

Has anybody applied for a china visa when working as a civil servant? What do you select under occupation? Do you put "government official"?
