Canaries or Crete

I went to crete earlish oct and it was very cool... needed jeans and a jacket/proper shoes, duvet at night and everywhere was shut.

cherryassam · 12/09/2023 20:52

For guaranteed good weather in October short haul, Canaries is hard to beat.

Cyprus, some parts of Turkey, Crete - can be good, can be not so good.

Verite1 · 12/09/2023 20:58

If short haul, it’s got to be canaries. You might be lucky elsewhere (I have had amazing weather in both Spain and Greece in October) but it’s a gamble.

Triptastico · 12/09/2023 22:30

Canaries, Dubai or Cyprus. Or long haul.

We've been to Dalaman and Antalya late October early November and the days have been very warm. Cardigan at night but amazing

Plumful · 12/09/2023 23:02

I was in Greece first week of Oct last year and it was boiling!

welshweasel · 12/09/2023 23:11

Egypt is perfect weather in October

BuffaloCauliflower · 12/09/2023 23:11

Cyprus should be just right then

Sorry to hijack thread. @Plumful - where abouts in Greece where you?

I am considering Athens, Santorini and Naxos with a few friends on 12th october but I'm worried it will be too nippy and too quiet/half dead etc

Royanne · 12/09/2023 23:51

We've had hot weather in Portugal during the October half term

caringcarer · 12/09/2023 23:52

Cyprus or Malta will be in low to mid 20's in October.

We have found Greece varied in October. A year spar but Crete was highs of 14 yet Athens a constant 21/22 most of the fortnight.

@SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything - thanks for your reply. I'm conflicted on what to do. We were going to go with the 'flashpack' company, it's like a company for holidays for people in their 30's/40's, if you haven't heard of it.

It's the last trip of the year. But like every other trip of theirs has sold out apart from this one, which makes me think it's weather related. There would only be like 5 people on the trip so may not be much fun. 😐

CallieQ · 13/09/2023 01:11

Turkey

Sorry I have never heard of the company but perhaps look at the average temperatures over the last few years - the world is (unfortunately) heating up.

We found Athens to be great in October, as any city would be, but Crete had fewer shops open/activities available as quieter for them. Having been in July previously it was a very different experience.

TinDogTavern · 13/09/2023 07:58

Canaries. Lovely weather pretty much guaranteed in October, but not baking.

Plumful · 13/09/2023 08:40

Kos

reluctantbrit · 13/09/2023 23:02

We have been to Lanzarote and Cyprus in October (2017 and 2019) and had a mix of really warm sunny days and torrential downpour.

It gets fresh as soon as the sun goes down, around 4pm. You will need long trousers and a cardigan/hoody/jacket in the evenings.

Friends went to Turkey and reported similar weather. Also a lot of resorts do reduce restaurants and the tourist areas around are also shutting down.
