Fear of turbulence!

Later this week, my DH and I are going on a cruise which involves a 3.5 hour flight to pick the boat up.
It's a special holiday as I retired from a long career in teaching this summer and we wanted to do something nice in September.
However, the closer we get to departure day, the more anxious I'm
feeling as I'm terrified of turbulence! Taking off and landing are fine-it's just the bit in between! The very thought of a bumpy flight sends me over the edge! I understand the science of it-sort of-but just cannot deal with it when it happens!
Any advice/reassurance would be welcome!

So we've just got back from our fly cruise and it was amazingly ok!
There was some turbulence on the way back but I just focused on what previous posters had said and it worked! The wine helped too! I was the most relaxed I'd ever been on a place! Thank you all so much. 😃

That's brilliant! Did you imagine yourself on the sea? I did 😂
Where did you go? We went to Kassiopi and have booked to go back twice next year. Loved it.

We went to Croatia (Korcula, Zadar and Dubrovnik) and several of the Greek islands, my favourite being Mykonos. Also spent some time in Valletta-beautiful!
Never going to let flying put me off going anywhere again!
Where is Kassiopi?

Amazing news and sounds like a fab holiday! The world is your oyster 🛫🌍

Do they even prescribe diazepam for flying now? I thought they stopped doing that...I tried once and was refused!

Sounds right up my street.

Kassiopi is northern Corfu.

If it's really worrying you, you could ask your doctor to lrescri e a mild sedative, or just take a dose of any allergy medicine that makes you a bit sleepy.

Stop investigating the science of flight. It isn't helping you at all.

IncognitoMam, Corfu was one of the cruise ports. We only saw the main town but it was lovely. Would be keen to see more of the island.

@Foxymoxy68 we did an evening boat trip to Corfu town. It was nice to visit I wouldn't want to holiday there.

I'll add a couple of pics of Kassiopi.

They were too large to share? If you Google you can see how lovely it is.

I hate taking off. I started recording it on phone and watching it back.

Propranolol. As soon as you get on the plane.

Imagine it's a roller coaster. My last flight we was being side slammed and the guy next me was clearly freaked out. That helped as I had to stay calm for him, it's normal, the plane can cope with unbelievable forces, it will stop soon, etc, keep saying that on loop.

Drink alcohol. I know you shouldn't especially with the Propranolol just just gets to point you longer care if you have a few drinks on early flight.

I absolutely hate turbulence & have to be medicated to get on a flight. I needed emergency prescription & GP surgery told me they no longer prescribe diazepam for flying.

I got a small prescription due to emergency but what do they prescribe now ? I've tried hypnotherapy & it didn't make any difference to me Confused

Strong alcohol? 😉

I don't know but it's a shame you can't get it.
