I've got accommodation booked for Valkenburg, although am a bit thinking I've had/have planned too many holidays and I might can it this year. I do love my annual Christmas market trip though.

Vienna last year was lovely.

We are going to Berlin this year. As we have school children we can only do Friday pm to Sunday pm and looked for one with a direct flight and no onwards transport.

We did Hamburg in the past as we have family there. Easy to go by train for a day to Lübeck or Lüneburg.

Munich is on the list as is Vienna.

If you have a bit more time and don't mind travelling, Rotheburg up der Tauber is lovely. Look for a city which does also other things or you don't mind travelling.

Frankfurt can be good as a base (and it has a nice one and also nice museums) as their public transport network is huge and goes to several other cities as well, easy for a day trip.

Strasbourg is a lovely city, I'm assuming their Christmas market is lovely too, although I haven't been.
