Any advice?
For a solo traveller.
Thank you.

Crete lying so far south is usually a good bet. Airport either end of the island so transfer times are usually quite short.

Food, scenery, people, drink all magic. So mHighly recommend.

I was typing so much history

If you are interested in history, it's worth a visit to the British Museum before you go and in your return.

A very English voice was heard very clearly when we were in the historical museum in Hiraklion asking why all there seemed to be only broken statues, missing limbs etc. the answer given was the all the intact ones could be seen in the BM.

Oh, sorry, realise now you meant to book. Soz.

cherryassam · 11/09/2023 15:33

Jet2 are always my go to for packages

EggInANest · 11/09/2023 15:35

LOL - I did mean to book, yes!

Love Crete, am thinking Kefalonia, maybe.

We booked easyjet flights to Kefalonia direct and then researched hotels on booking.com.
Hotel booked us a taxi transfer.

TiredandLate · 11/09/2023 15:39

Jet 2, lastminute.com, onthebeach.

Try your local travel agent too, mine will quote over fb messenger then call to complete the booking.

TiredandLate · 11/09/2023 15:39

Check flights on skyscanner first so you know which is cheapest/best

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 11/09/2023 15:47

Just come back from kefalonia. Best deals were with on the beach when booking in advance (like best part for £1k less than with jet2 for the same holiday).

but TUI seem to have good last minute deals if you’re only booking a week or two in advance.

You might be better off booking things separately. You can definitely get good deals on hotels.

We’re in Mykonos right now and looked to extend a stay at one hotel by one night as the ferries to Paros were being cancelled willy nilly because of the wind and it was all very uncertain. Anyway, searched our hotel and an additional night in a better room was cheaper than what we had paid per night for our room.

Kicked ourselves for being organised and booking accommodation months ago, when we could have it done it as we went along and saved hundreds of pounds (over a 10 day trip).

I think it pays to plan less, if travelling out of season.

We loved kefalonia, it was beautiful and the people were just so friendly. Really lovely place.

we stayed at the karavados beach hotel, which we loved, it was reasonably priced and the views are amazing. If you’re not planning on hiring a car though it’s a bit out the way and only a few tavernas you can walk to. The hotel does serve dinner, but it’s a bit meh and so many other lovely places to eat on the island, breakfast was good though.

Lots of people like lassi which is near argostoli and has nice Sandy beaches. I’ve heard that some do find it a bit too catered to brits, but good choice of places to eat and a good place to explore from. I also liked Sami in the north, the beaches are pebbly, but it had a nice feel to it. Lourdata was also lovely and had a good choice of tavernas along the beach and more up in the village.

I can definitely recommend the cafe up by St George’s castle, it’s called kastro cafe, family run with amazing food and service. We spent a lovely morning looking round the castle ruins and then lunch in the cafe. Assos is beautiful but the road to reach it was scary!! Same with Myrtos beach! Melissani cave is worth a visit, but try and avoid cruise ship days as it gets really busy. Argostoli square is a great place to eat in the evening, very atmospheric.

have an amazing time!

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 12/09/2023 07:40

Oh and the turtles in argostoli harbour are a must see. 🐢

If it was me I'd book flights and accommodation separately.

A nice apartment overlooking a harbour or small house in a village. That way I'd have my space away from others and a few facilities if I needed them.

WildCountry · 12/09/2023 12:27

For Kefalonia late deals, the best I've ever used are Ionian and Aegean island holidays.

I think I am coming to this conclusion!

My recommendation is Symi. Flights to Rhodes, taxi to the port and then a 1hr crossing.

It's beautiful and I would feel totally safe and comfortable being a solo female traveller there.

Hobbesmanc · 12/09/2023 17:31

We sadly had our trip to Skiathos cancelled last week and there was hardly any choice. We ended up in Parga on the mainland and it's truly lovely. Package with jet2.

EggInANest · 12/09/2023 18:27

Yes, been to Symi before, and loved it!

Will look at Parga!
