Reykjavik

Planning a short trip to Iceland. I've found some "out of town" trips I really want to do.
But what are the recommendations for things actually within Reykjavik?
And where is a good area of the town to stay where we could walk to everywhere?

We stayed at the Sand Hotel (based on a friend's recommendation who'd also stayed there). Super-convenient as it's right on the main street and walkable to everywhere. Breakfast is included (and very good!) and they also own one of Iceland's best bakeries which is right next door (and supplies some of the breakfast) and is a great place for lunch.

Sand hotel is a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Reykjavik with rich culture, art, and Iceland‘s landmarks, like Hallgrimskirkja, just around the corner.

Ooh I like the idea of being next door to a great bakery!! Thanks. What did you do in the town? Most activities and sights I've found involve trips outside of town except Perlan and the cathedral.

Best holiday we have been on but we booked lots of trips! Had some evenings and a day there though. There was a really cool book shop that had acoustic night on that was brilliant! (Opposite bastards bar)

Ooh holiday envy😁

We did a Icelandic myths and legends walking tour - that was great.

Whale museum. Just browsed shops and wandered.

We stayed in the centre plaza hotel. That seemed to be quite a good spot for things.

Puffin watching was a bit of a disappointment and definitely would not bother with that again.

Also loved messinn fish restaurant.

The myths and legends walk sounds perfect, I love that sort of thing, that's definitely going on the list!

@TaigaSno this was the one I think.

Check this out from Viator, it looks amazing!

Flyover Iceland is really cool, located near the harbour. https://www.flyovericeland.com/

Just waking around looking at the street art and cool houses.

Perlan is 45 min walk or a short taxi ride and is a great place to spend a few hours. The restaurant was fab too. https://perlan.is/?gclid=CjwKCAjwr_CnBhA0EiwAci5sigp7SNwQzT2oYxWlx0DqFL8hGNsooSmvjEyMwYertcgr9c233TNcUhoCKAkQAvD_BwE

Harpa concert hall - worth just having a wander around https://www.harpa.is/en/about-harpa/

Go up the tower of Hallgrimskirkja church - great views on a clear day. https://www.hallgrimskirkja.is/

Just stay in any hotel/hostel/guesthouse you fancy in 101. That is where basically everything touristy is. 101 is very small so it doesn't particularly matter where exactly.

Get the Hopp app and rent e-scooters to cover more ground more easily. Or rent bikes. See Harpa, Sólfari, Hallgrímskirkja, Tjörnin, Austurvöllur, maybe City Hall.

Go out along the coastal paths to see some of the more beautiful parts of the capital area. Ægissíða -> Nauthólsvík -> Fossvogsdalur -> Elliðaárdalur is a very nice route. Or from the Grandi area out around the edge of Seltjarnarnes to see the nature reserve - full of amazing birdlife in the summer but beautiful all year round.

Visit one of the outdoor public swimming pools - thermally heated and large.

I absolutely loved the Saga Museum on a trip a couple of years ago.
