Barbados at Christmas - Airbnb or hotel

My kids and I want to escape Xmas this year. Was thinking Dubai but Barbados has caught my eye.

Hotel or Airbnb?
South Coast or West Coast?
What are costs like to self cater and eat out?
Who should we fly with?

Any advice or thoughts welcome.

What's your budget OP? I've been to the west coast, around the St James area, a couple of times, but not much further afield. How long would you go for? We stayed for 5 nights on one trip and that's probably the minimum I'd go for.

Looking at 2 weeks I think.

Also interested in this thread as thinking of booking a last minute trip over new year. What’s the seaweed like on the south coast? I’ve read it can be problematic and I’m keen to enjoy the beach! Reviews of some of the elegant group hotels on the west coast indicate they are all a bit run down. Anyone have any positive recommendations? Price flexible except fairmont and sandy lane are out of range
