Long haul waste of time?

I’m just back from an amazing holiday in Caribbean with DH. It was a beautiful resort, went on some fabulous trips etc. He said he had a lovely time but said we could have been anywhere, like Spain, Greece etc. as it was on a resort. Doesn’t see the point in long haul generally when you can have the same experience just a couple of hours away. Nice beaches, different culture, lovely weather etc.
He’s very black & white, he doesn’t get nuances or grey areas which is probably part of the problem!
Drives me mad as I love to travel and we can afford it now we’re older and have more disposable income.
Anyone else have the same problems? How do you argue with someone so set in their ways?! (Perhaps this question is for a different post?!) Any words of wisdom most welcome!

I would not travel long haul to do a couple of day trips from the hotel so agree with your dh on this.

Thing is you can get two weeks in the Caribbean at an AI resort for the price of two weeks in Spain or Greece.. don’t stay in the resort and visit the ‘history’ of where you are. I would rather have two weeks in Cuba, Jamaica or Mexico than two weeks in Spain where you get English and Irish bars with loud drunk brits in them night after night!

Agree with pp than Far East might be a better option. I love Vietnam and it’s really easy to plan a trip there and travel around. Hoi An is great if you want to to relax, but also want to be near the beach. I have stayed here several times
https://lasiestaresorts.com/ and there are many fabulous restaurants in the old town. Easy to combine with Hanoi or HCMC or Mekong delta or Da lat or Hue.
Hiring a car and driver is not expensive and flights with Viet jet are good value.

We're off to Antigua in November, what we'll get to see that you can't see in Europe are England v West Indies cricket matches.

Although we're going AI we will still go out and discover the island, we usually use public transport so we are giving to the local economy and eat out of the hotel on our days out.

I think the issue is the Caribbean. Unless you are going ultra high end then I think it's vastly vastly overrated. We now prefer to go East to Thailand/Malaysia/Vietnam as we can truly relax there and feel safe. In the Caribbean we were always on edge.
