Miami (ad)Vice needed

We're off to Miami at the end of January. What realistically is the weather going to be like and does anyone have any recommendations for hotels etc suitable for 3yr DS and 18mth DD. We don't want to do the Orlando/theme park thing just yet. Also what other places should we visit around Miami as don't nec want to base ourselves there all the time.

Virgin holidays do Miami, have a look at their brochure. Would not suggest you stay in any of the hotels located in the South Beach area as they are not really suitable for families (very noisy at night and many hotels there are boutique/minimalist style).

Coral Gables in the Miami area has a pink marble public swimming baths which looks and is fab.

Fort Lauderdale is just up the coast and has clean beaches and good shops.

A good newspaper to read and get info from on Miami is the Miami Herald (www.miamiherald.com).
