ash6605 · 04/03/2008 14:49

We were there at half term too. The weather is pretty much the same as here. The first four days were nice and sunny so it wasn't too bad (still needed hats/gloves) but on the Friday we had freezing fog and it was cold very very cold.

Make sure you take some fruit with you, as everything seems to be burger/pizza & chips!

ash6605 · 04/03/2008 14:57

Yeah I remember that Fimbo and since I'm on the Cambridge diet I'm going to find the food thing hard enough!! Did either of you have a character meal? or the Wild West show, sorry for all the questions!!

OP posts:
Fimbo · 04/03/2008 16:41

We didn't bother with the character meal, I don't think my ds (4) would have been up for that. He was happy to queue for his picture with Mickey but that was all. Although friends have done it and thought it was good.

The Wild West thing costs an arm and a leg (as does all the food on site!!), I think it may have been something like £65 (yes pounds!) for an adult, although you do get a free stetson .

The best place to queue for Minnie is at Walt Disney Studios - much shorter queue, as I don't think people realised what the queue was for until she arrived! I think she was there just after it opened at 10.

Also if you do go to Walt Disney Studios make sure you had for the "Cars" ride first - it is one of the newer rides and we queued for ages.

The tram tour is a must - be prepared for a surprise, but thats all I am saying.

My dd (9) enjoyed a pizza in the shape of Mickey at the Backlot in Walt Disney Studios (best pizza all holiday according to her!).

The place to eat that ReadySalted is thinking about is called Annette's and is at the start of Disney Village. It was nice but just your bog standard fare really of burger and chips etc. The kids meals come on a frizbee for them to keep. It heavily advertises the fact that the waitresses are on roller skates and we felt a bit cheated as they weren't but we went at lunch time, so maybe they do in the evening.

If all else fails there is also MacD's!!!

If you go Videopolis in Discoveryland when the parade is on at 4pm, you can pick your seat before the Lion King show comes on at about 4.30/5.00. The food in there is okish and they have a serve yourself salad bar.

Don't have meals in your hotel. It cost us £140 for 2 meals in ours!

hana · 04/03/2008 16:44

food was dire everywhere - hotel and throughout disneyland itself. didnt do a lot of the rides as oldest dd is 6. stuck mostly to fantasyland to be honest! dind't bother with meeting characters and lining up to get their autographs (waste of time) but did see parade a couple of times.

Fimbo · 04/03/2008 16:47

There is a hypermarket at Val D'Europe, with a yummy bakery dept and cheese dept. It's one stop down on the local train (get tickets from the side nearest to the park).

hana · 04/03/2008 16:49

Fimbo - we stayed at Explorers! I was the slightly harrassed mum with 3 girls with oldest having tantrums that we wouldn't buy her everything she liked

Fimbo · 04/03/2008 16:57

My ds was the one screaming in the fastpass queue that he was scared of Buzz and didn't want to go on the laser blast!!

Then because there was no Thomas stuff he wanted Cars things. Has he played with any of the god damn cars since we got them, as he heck.

My friend loves it and is on her 2nd trip in a year. I have been once and once was most definately enough.

Did you go by Eurostar Hana? We did from Ashford - very organised that side, but the French side was a nightmare. We even had a French couple in our seats on the return trip (turfed them out though!).

ash6605 · 04/03/2008 19:22

Thanks for all of those tips, have written them down in my holiday notebook!! (Sad or what?!)

We wouldn't mind a trip to Paris also, preferably on an evening mainly to see the tower!

My son broke his thumb today and has a plaster cast on so don't know how many of the rides we will be going on but we can at least watch the shows and parades.

fimbo - we drove over (eurotunnel) very painless. Went Thurs til Sat and was enough for us. Most of day on Thursday, alal day Fri and Sat am. Had serious Disney fatigue by the end. dds loved it. my only regret was not doing any shopping at the large mall close to the park!

Fimbo · 05/03/2008 11:04

Hi Aimsmum - and I thought we were bad! . We went to the 3 course thing in the hotel the first night and didn't really pay much attention to the price. There were loads of people in that night. We could see into the restaurant from our room and the next night the place was empty!! Too many people recovering from the shock of the price! Ds only ate a few grains of rice and a chocolate tart thing.

Hana - I wonder if we saw each other on the shuttle bus. I most likely would have been wearing a turquoise ski-jacket on the Friday! LOL

Ash - I have a small AA Guide to Eurodisney
you can have if you want - CAT me. (contact another mumsnetter at top of page)
