Resort with decent splash park for 7&9 yr old

TheMindfulMum · 03/09/2023 09:07

Looking ahead to next year and I'm searching for a resort with decent splash park for our kids who love the water, slides, bounce pillows etc. We've just returned from Iberostar Cala Barca which was amazing. Can anyone recommend places they've been to with similar aged kids for us to consider for next year?

Don't want a full on water park just yet as we've only done this resort type holiday for the first time this year and we want to save full on water park type places until they are bigger. Need something bigger than a toddler splash pad though and a few restaurants to choose from would be nice rather than one buffet restaurant all the time.

Some places to have a look at - not sure how much of a water park would be too much for you, so some might not be quite right:

HD Parque Cristobal Grand Canaria, Playa Del Ingles

Radisson Blu Resort and Spa Gran Canaria, Puerto Mogan

Cordial Santa Agueda Resort, Arguineguin, Gran Canaria

H10 Tindaya, Costa Calma, Fuerteventura

Zafiro C’an Picafort, Majorca

Iberostar Playa de Muro, Majorca

Apollonion Asterias Resort & Spa, Lixouri, Kefalonia

Louis Sofianna, Paphos
Constantinou Bros Athena Beach Hotel, Paphos

Ramada Kusadasi, Kusadasi, Izmir

Otium Sealight Resort, Kusadasi, Izmir

Korumar Ephesus Beach and Spa Resort, Kusadasi, Izmir

Barut Hemera, Side, Antalya

Haydarpasha Palace, Alanya, Antalya

Adalya Elite Lara, Lara Beach, Antalya

Orka Lotus Beach, Icmeler, Dalaman

Carema Beach in Menorca

TheMindfulMum · 03/09/2023 20:57

@cherryassam thank you sooo much! This is an amazing list, how do you know so many?! I started looking through the first few earlier and the splash areas looked a little in the tame side.... can you recommend any with slightly bigger splash areas/slides but not full on water park style?

Im going to check the second half now. We would go to turkey or Greece if we needed to but would love Balearics or canaries if we could find something in that direction but it's not essential.

Carema Beach in Menorca

Thank you. I stumbled upon this one earlier. If I remember right I think this was the one where couldn't work out which page I should be reading on trip advisor. Are there two resorts?? Have you stayed here yourself? Thanks for your help x

I work in the travel industry and put together packages as part of my role so have databases I can search helpfully!

Some of the splash parks tend to be aimed at slightly younger children, but you could also look at these in the Balearics / Canaries , although they’re not all AI:

Playa Bella Apartments, San Antonio, Ibiza
Marvell Club Hotel, San Antonio, Ibiza
Grand Palladium White Island Resort, Playa D’En Bossa, Ibiza

Most of the ones mentioned so far don't have anything other than pools. The Tui holiday village in Benaldemena is good as there is normal pools by the hotel then you cross over a bridge to get to the slides area. It's not massive but good enough. Then there is another restaurant over that side you can use. Also can book two other types of restaurant in the resort per week.
We also did a day trip to Aqualand which is a massive water park nearby. Hotel gave us a packed lunch as we were all inclusive so we didn't miss out or have to pay for food while out.

VanillaImpulse · 04/09/2023 00:01

Also Tui holiday village in Ibiza has a waterpark. I think the Tui blue next door can also use it. (Port Des Torrent)

Fivemoreminutes1 · 04/09/2023 13:05

@TheMindfulMum it is confusing, you’re right. We stayed at Carema Club Resort, which is where you need to be if you want the splash park!

FullFatPhil · 04/09/2023 13:29

The ones I've stayed at on that list don't have exciting splash parks or multiple restaurants

DatumTarum · 04/09/2023 13:39

The one I linked too does

My dc were a similar age to yours when we went to these 2 hotels.

Turkey has great resorts with water slides.

TruffleShuffles · 04/09/2023 17:43

Rixos premium Tekirova, this has a great splash park with a lazy river and also the full on water park next to it. There is I think 5 restaurants and 4 bars.

Monkeytapper · 04/09/2023 18:04

We have just come back from Cala Barca too!..well, came back 25th Aug, love it there, been 3 times, we have also been looking for next year but seem to be priced out if the other Iberostar Hotels 😭 , our kids are teens so think we have grown out of Cala Barca now anyway…..sorry, can’t help with recommendations , hope you find somewhere ☀️

It's just amazing isn't it?! We honestly had the most perfect holiday. It was our first of going abroad with the kids and we couldn't fault it one bit.... so expectations are now pretty high and I don't think we're going to beat it. We also pumped straight to find another Iberostar hotel but like you, they're too pricey for us unfortunately. Husband suggested we go back to Cala Barca next year but I think I want to keep it where it is rather than go back and it might not be quite the same and then burst the bubble. So the search continues...

Wow 🤩 It's stunning and indeed looks perfect. Unfortunately it's out of our budget. Thank you though. One to aim for one year perhaps.

Lyttos Beach in Crete. Good size, without being too big.

Thank you. Lovely long list to work through tonight. Seeing as you're the expert, if you change your search to water park rather than splash park, can you name drop those hotels too? The difference between the two terms seems very subjective and very limiting when using the search engines us general folk only get access to! Location wise we'd love Balearics or canaries ideally if that helps narrow the search. Thanks again 🙏🏼

Thank you. Again, another stunner but it's out of budget 😢 I think the 5* / Luxe / Premium hotels are out of our range.

We don’t like going to the same place twice , but made an exception for the Cala Barca…..the food was amazing…I’m with your husband on this one. So much to do whilst your there even though it is in the middle of nowhere…awwww, I want to go back now😃

Monkeytapper · 04/09/2023 18:51

Just to add, they upgraded our room when we checked in this time as we were ‘returning’ guests…we had only paid for standard room which we thought would be in a block a bit further away, which would’ve been fine as was located there when we went the first year….so we were central this time.

We paid for central this year having read reviews when I was booking it last year. Having been there and experienced everything we did (and you know what that includes yourself) and looking at prices for next year for other hotels, it makes me realise what good value Cala Barca is. It's still a good price itself for next year given everything that it offers and it having been our first experience of this I feel very lucky. I thought we'd come home and I'd hit the 'net and find neat years easy but I'm really struggling to find a decent splash park and a choice of restaurant. Ideally husband wants a one bedroom apartment as well (like we had) rather than all four of us sleeping in the same room. Again, didn't realise how rare this was until I'm back now looking for alternatives 😂

We have been away with our kids for last 15 years, couple of times a year and rate the Cala Barca the best for food and entertainment and activities for kids etc ….I say book it 😉

TheMindfulMum · 04/09/2023 19:19

@Monkeytapper How many times have you been? Do your teens still enjoy the splash area and bounce pillow?
