www.tripadvisor.com has reviews of both these hotels. Doubletree Club is the higher rated of these two you mention.

I lived there ok it was 10 yrs ago but it would not be my choice of destination. It could have improved a bit but crime was high then and the station where the buses came in in NY was not in the nicest part of the city and I was always told to taxi back. I hope it has improved now !

Lapin that was the name of the place I was trying to remember it is certainly a bit nicer or maybe try the other side over in Long Island ????

Littlelapin...the reason i've chosen Jersey City is because its not far from Manhattan!!The hotels i've chosen are actually in the financial district and according to Tripadvisor...the area is safe!I will have to doublecheck! The hotels in Manhattan tend to be small and expensive whereas on the outskirts you get bigger rooms and the commute not more than 20 mins to Manhattan...

would agree with LL and rosa - JC is not the plushest of areas. I was there about 2 months ago and it ain't pretty, can be quite intimidating) and the commute to NYC isn't anywhere near 20 mins if the traffic is heavy. I agree Manhattan hotel rooms are v small and expensive, but you might want to check out Brooklyn or Long Island before makign a decision
