Flight cancelled - now where?

Hi everyone,

Just asking for some ideas. Long time since I had a long haul flight/holiday, the last was Mexico.

We had booked to go for 2 weeks in end oct - Nov to Vietnam, flights just got cancelled and I believe airline is no longer running flights from october.

Looking for ideas for a holiday that time of year (this year!), around same kind of price.

Flights were £1900 for both of us, hotels really cheap (£600). Looking for something similar priced really and ideally a non-stop flight.

Kind of urgent since of vaccinations were booked in for next week. I have seen Costa Rica and Nairobi so far, but not been to either. Trying to avoid anywhere dodgy when TTC since we are going to try when we get back. :)

Have you checked Skyscanner to see which flights are available at the time you would have gone?

If you still wanted to do Vietnam, there are likely other airlines running in October.

If you’re TTC, avoid anywhere with Zika virus.
How about Abu Dhabi?

I have seen Costa Rica and Nairobi so far, but not been to either.

Have a look HMG FO advice for Nairobi....

Kenya is an amazing country and the people can be lovely but you need to exercise due diligence.

Nairobi Trademark hotel and organize trips out, tea farm, safaris, etc brochure online. ask for driver Robert is amazing.
Lake Naivasha hippo safari boat (canoe with engine) and masai led walk to gorge
Lake Nakuru safari, stay over in lake Nakuru lodge

Or book a two day safari from there. Look up kenya rail safaris
Express train to mombasa and or to tsavo

Everything airport style sevurity incl luggage into hotels

Why not just go to Vietnam on a different carrier? What’s the obstacle with that?

Bandol · 31/08/2023 12:44

Was the cancelled flight going to Hanoi (HAN) or Ho Chi Minh City (SGN)? It's really easy to fly between the two cities if that helps with finding flights to Vietnam. Which airline was it?

agoodfriendofthethree · 31/08/2023 12:46

Do you mind me asking which airline you were due to fly with? I'm wanting to book Vietnam for next year but I'm struggling to find the usual direct flights, so I'm wondering if this might be linked. I hope you find a fun alternative!

House4DS · 31/08/2023 18:43

Sri Lanka, Malaysia or Thailand.
Costa Rica is a similar price to UK on the ground - fabulous though (we went in July)

Or Vietnam with another airline? Layover in middle east or Thailand?
Your flights look quite expensive so I'd have thought you'd have options.

Ebookers ranked by flight time.
Cheapest option around £700

You can do London-Hanoi (1 change) then Ho Chi Minh City-London direct for £805 each.

dinhoecotour · 01/09/2023 04:20

Skyscanner is a good site to do some research for flights.

Chickpea17 · 01/09/2023 04:28

Can't you just go to Vietnam on a different carrier? I went 7 years ago its a amazing place your wont regret it.

MidtoLon · 01/09/2023 22:50

Vietnam Airlines do a direct flight Heathrow to Hanoi 22/10/23 £883

ChilliPB · 02/09/2023 10:13

Taiwan at that time of year is amazing. Flights would be the biggest cost but there are direct options from Heathrow. It’s fairly cheap when you get there for food, travel etc.

rhino12345 · 02/09/2023 10:28

Try and stick with Vietnam. Amazing place!! Absolutely love it 🩷

Kapalika · 02/09/2023 14:05

Thailand. Or cross the border to Vietnam.
