The roof of our holiday rental is leaking. What are our rights?

We arrived at our UK holiday rental four days ago to find a bowl on the floor in the main bedroom. We received a text from the owners that night to say leave the bowl where it is because the roof was leaking that they planned to have it fixed the next day. Mall has been fine until today (although it’s felt ridiculous to have to leave a bowl on the floor underneath a potential leak) when there have been extremely heavy showers and the bowl has approximately 1cm water in it which has come through the ceiling. It’s not very nice, and there is nowhere else for us to sleep.

Clearly the owners were aware of this situation before we arrived but so far they have failed to resolve it. Can anyone tell me what our rights are here? We have rented it through a holiday lettings agency.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies to holiday lets in the UK - see here for more details: https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/advice/my-self-catering-accommodation-isn-t-what-i-was-promised-what-can-i-do-abYCf6O8PIVb

If there is water coming through the roof then I think you could make the case that there is an issue with both cleanliness and safety. Who are you booked through? Do you have a contract with the holiday letting agency or directly with the owner?

My self-catering accommodation isn't what was promised, what can I do? - Which?

If your self-catering accommodation is different than what was promised or is dirty or unsafe, read our guide to your rights.
