Smaller hotel in Tenerife or Lanzarote in December?

Paddingtonthebear · 29/08/2023 18:16

Looking to book 7 nights the week before Xmas but ideally wanting a smaller hotel, less than 200 rooms. Does this exist? AI or full board.

Lanzarote:

H10 White Suites (about 200) - adult only

Labranda Suite Hotel Alyssa (120)

Sandos Atlantic Gardens (100) - adult only

Elba Premium Suites (132) - adult only

Tenerife:

Iberostar Grand Salome (33) - adult only and luxury prices

Hovima Panorama Aparthotel (175)

Gran Oasis Resort (206)

Adrian Hoteles Colon Guanahani (154) - adults only

H10 Big Sur (167) - adults only

Hotel Sir Antony (70)

Green Garden Eco Resort (121)

Thanks, forgot to mention we will have a pre teen in tow!

Ignore the adult only ones!

The smaller ones are often adult only, as you may have already find out.

I know it’s slightly over 200 but definitely check out Gran Oasis Resort as it has good facilities for kids as well as heated pools

Paddingtonthebear · 29/08/2023 19:18

Thanks! I just can’t face these 600 room hotels!

Aqua Suites Boutique Hotel in Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote. Its not AI or full board but does do B&B and half board (and lots of nearby restaurants). Only has 67 rooms.

AlrightJulia · 29/08/2023 19:37

Following recommendations from Mumsnet, we went to Royal Sun Suites in Los Gigantes, Tenerife. Would add my recommendation to the list! Not all inclusive but you can do half board or B&B as the kitchens in the apartments are all a good size with cooker, fridge/freezer/ microwave etc. Less than 200 rooms. We will go back again.

Hi, sorry I know that I am not the op but you have saved me a few hours of research this weekend. Thanks so much

cherryassam · 29/08/2023 19:47

No problem! I work in the travel world and this is a question that comes up a lot so
I have pretty good records for most places. These are just the ones offering Full Board or All Inc and open in December (through Jet2 as that’s who we primarily use for Europe packages). There will be other options that are B&B / half board. It’s worth using TUI to search as well as they usually include the number of rooms in their information about a hotel.

Paddingtonthebear · 29/08/2023 20:09

Thanks, yes TUI is good for showing hotel size but doesn’t fly from our regional airport on the date we need unfortunately. So I’m looking at other sites but number of rooms is harder to clarify. Ideally want a a reasonable size hotel in a non tacky town/resort and walking distance to beach and town / shops.

And going just before Xmas want FB or AI just for ease really when it’s only a week, don’t want to cook but happy to go out and eat a few times anyway.

We stayed here in August and loved it. It’s an amazing hotel and the trip advisor reviews are 5 star.

we are going back in December. Can’t wait

cherryassam · 29/08/2023 20:46

What sort of budget do you have?

Haretest · 29/08/2023 21:03

Is it warm enough in December? I like the canaries but 18C average just isn't worth it for me!

beakyboo10 · 29/08/2023 21:08

@2chocolateoranges we went last August and thought the hotel was amazing and my son still talks about the cheese omelettes at breakfast. The only problem is now that when we went to Greece this year we kept comparing to Aqua Suites standard.

Paddingtonthebear · 29/08/2023 23:47

Aqua Suites looks great but I’ve been to PDC before and didn’t like it at all unfortunately

Hotel LIVVO Volcan in Playa Blanca has 250-ish rooms and only does half board but is a beautiful hotel and doesn’t feel massive. It’s right by Rubicon marina and just has a lovely atmosphere.

cherryassam · 30/08/2023 00:27

Hotel HL Club Playa Blanca might also fit the bill

We are planning to go back to PDC in December and my dh hates staying in the same hotel twice but I’m worried that if we stay anywhere else he will compare it to Aqua suites as we really had no complaints. Best hotel we have stayed in,

Paddingtonthebear · 30/08/2023 10:12

What is PDC like these days? I haven’t been for over 25 years but it was quite rough when I went and DH said the same when he went in the mid 2000’s

Just come back from Labranda Suite Hotel Alyssa near Playa Blanca in Lanzarote- we liked it there. Probably not the four-star it is rated as, but a really good 3 1/2 star! Nice small complex, lovely accommodation – you can get two-bedroom bungalows. Good choice of food

gm2023 · 30/08/2023 15:07

Bigger than you would like but try Seaside Los Jameos, Lanzarote.

PrinceHaz · 30/08/2023 15:15

This place is stunning, we have been. It’s not AI or any form of board but you get breakfast and it has a good restaurant you’d need to book.
The north coast of Tenerife is rocky and wild and very different to the south.

Tabblesnattles · 30/08/2023 15:39

@cherryassam Any recommendations for somewhere warm (not windy) with proper heated pools short flight from the south west, either mid end of dec or feb half term?. Don’t mind what board but do like more modern accommodation and quiet. 10 year old and 2 year old so a park/something nearby to see/do please? Is a budget of £2k impossible now?
Sorry to hijack the thread!!

cherryassam · 30/08/2023 16:39

@Tabblesnattles it depends a little what you count as a short flight?

Budget of 2k would go further in December than February half term, but would depend on how close to Christmas.

You’re unlikely to get under 2k for a package in Feb half term, although free child places might just get you under at some places. Fewer companies offer free child places at half terms though.

We really liked it, had never been before but liked it and going back in December. We liked that the bars and restaurants were all on the sea front and that it catered for all ages.

However, we do like busier resorts.
