We are looking at going to Tenerife next year. Definitely South. Probably costa Adeje or nearby. Options are -

May half term
June/July term time
6 week hols

We want warm enough weather to go in the pool/ sunbathe. Busy but not rammed On site Entertainment for kids. Restaurants open nearby. Ideally not to have to fight for a Sun bed.

Which time of year is best for 2 adults and a 8 year old. ?

We really liked Royal Sun apartments in Los Gigantes, huge balconies, self catering facilities, shop on site but also two restaurants. It's up the hill from the main touristy area so quiet and has the most fantastic views. It's a fairly small hotel so your DC will be able to have some freedom and the entertainment team was lovely and as its a smaller venue really get to know the children.

Had an amazing holiday at the GF Victoria in Costa Adeje during May half term. Lovely hotel, very clean with very professional staff- nothing was too much trouble. Lovely location too. Perfectly placed for an evening stroll by the sea (no rowdy Brits abroad types!) We rented a car and explored the island, it was fab.

Costa adeje is lovely. Far enough away from the main strip but nice if you want to wander into or go to he further away Los cristinos.

It does really depend on what you want in the holiday. There are some lovely cheep and cheerful places. We went to both the HOVIMA panorama and the HOVIMA la pinta. The first is more mini apartment. Does cater for more older people as many are also rented but we found other lovely for my autistic son. He was fussed over and helped to serve himself. The pool was large and good. Only small entertainment but so near other things it wasn't an issue.

La pinta was very family oriented. Pool always busy and activities. Good kids club. Food ok as felt a bit rushed but nothing bad just mass catering. It has direct access to the front and some nice places to eat but quite commercial.

In honesty, tenerife is the only place I've been to that I would never ever go back to. It's grimy, stinks and there are cockroaches fecking everywhere. There are some beautiful places on the globe you could go for same price or less.. dont waste your time and money there!

The beauty of Tenerife is it is warm all year round. I’ve been at Christmas and a few times in February and have been on the beach/in the pool every time.

To answer your question, I’d avoid July/August as you’ll time your holiday to coincide with the younger/party crowd meaning it’s a lot busier.

Of your suggestions, I’d opt for May half term or June.

Proudofeveryone · 28/08/2023 22:49

@Gabiabbi we go to Tenerife every year and have done for the last 20 years for at least a week. We have never seen a cockroach.

Autieangel · 29/08/2023 06:31

So is it definitely warm enough may/June? And season is open?

Tbh I'm not even sure why I wrote that..I mean, my experience was true, but it was years ago now and plenty of people go again and again and have a wonderful experience. I should have thought before I commented - currently crabby as I'm stuck in Greece (which I find amazing but also won't be to everyone's tastes 😅)

And yes OP, it'll be warm at that time of the year in the canaries but shouldn't be unbearable

ethelredonagoodday · 29/08/2023 07:59

We stayed in Los Gigantes last October half term. It was warm! 30ish.
My DB often goes in Jan and it's still a decent temperature then.

FrenchandSaunders · 29/08/2023 08:03

To me Tenerife is a winter sun holiday. We’ve been in jan/Feb and it’s mid 20s. Lovely and not a very long flight.

In the summer there are much nicer places to go …. Greek islands, even Majorca/menorca.

cheezncrackers · 29/08/2023 11:55

The weather will definitely be warm enough in May half-term OP. Tenerife (and all the Canaries) are warm year round. It's low 20s in the winter and low 30s in the summer, so May will probably be mid-20s.

Any info on whether Tenerife is bad for mosquitos? Going this week.

princesspeppax · 05/09/2023 18:25

Warm all year round but personally I would avoid the 6 weeks of summer personally because it is soooo busy, water parks etc ques are so long in the high season. We have been to Tenerife a few times and most recent 2 times we went in May which was perfect, still lovely and warm, everything still open but ques must more bareable.
