Tenerife - at Xmas, solo break

For various reasons, I’ve booked a slightly random trip for myself to go to Tenerife at Xmas. Only 4 nights, and the plan is to read, walk, chill out.

Any recommended places to stay? I’ve never been and don’t know it at all..! Would rather not stay in the big resorts but open to all ideas really. Hoping not to hire a car but could do if necessary.

thanks v much!

Los Gigantes is a smallish resort, can walk along the coast for a few miles front there

Ooh thanks ThePoshuns. Will research.

Guessing there won’t be much going on over Xmas weekend.

Which airport are you flying into?

Los Gigantes is a quieter resort as @ThePoshUns says.

The north coast has some lovely towns - Puerto de La Cruz is a lovely resort and is not too ‘British’.

I fancy El Medano, a bit of a surfer vibe, quite Spanish and not very commercialised

Scottishlanza · 28/08/2023 21:23

Re El Medano, I’ve been for the afternoon but not stayed there

Throwing in something else into the mix. Have you thought of Gran Canaria? Kumara Serenoa in Masplalomas is perfect for walking, quiet hotel with good pools and fab food.

I've stayed in an adults only in El Medano, nothing to do but a lovely place to chill, walk, read

Costa Adeje is lovely, and you have the option of the other bigger resorts if you wanted to walk or cycle

Don't go north in the winter, it's not warm enough

We went to Tenerife for Christmas a few years ago and everything was open as normal, you wouldn't have even known it was Christmas! I much prefer the North, it is so green and beautiful, with stunning views of Teide. The South is practically desert although the cliffs of Los Gigantes are spectacular. We stayed in a villa just outside Puerto de la Cruz. Lovely town with plenty of nice walks and restaurants.

Seconding Costa Adeji. Good bus connection to n from the airport. Things to get out to see - Los Gigantes is beautiful but a bit more isolated, though still do-able.

Sent you a PM.

Thanks everyone. Really helpful to get all these suggestions. Good to know places might be open around Christmas too, I was wondering whether to go full board but won’t necessarily bother if I can eat in other places.

I’m flying into Tenerife main airport I think - didn’t know there was more than one?

Warmth and a bit of sunshine would be fantastic but realise this isn’t guaranteed 🤞😁
