I live in Newton Abbot, Devon and my 9 year old grand daughter is coming for the day, any ideas of the best places to take a girl of that age.
I am in my 80's so long walks are not a good idea, just want to give her a day to remember.

My nephews loved Crealy Park when we had a holiday near Sidmouth, they were about 6 and 8 at the time.

Paignton Zoo followed by fish and chips on the beach and possibly a few goes on the amusements at Paignton Pier

Crealy is a good shout. What about the Donkey Sanctuary just beyond Sidmouth? It's free entry and the cafe is quite nice. You could possibly go a little further and take her on the Seaton Tramway. I normally park at Colyton and go down to Seaton, then back. The cafe at Colyton is nice for tea & cake.

Is the Mare & Foal Sanctuary still open, as that's quite a lot nearer? We have also been to the House of Marbles at Bovey on a wet day that went down quite well. The shop was popular.

If you aren't up to walking round Paignton Zoo, Shaldon Zoo is much smaller and friendlier. If she likes animals, the Otters and Butterflies at Buckfastleigh is good. You can also combine it with a ride on a steam train and visiting Totnes Rare Breeds farm.

What a friendly, helpful lot you all are, many thanks for all the ideas, will give her the choice, she can pick her own.
Many thanks.
