Recommend me a luxury hotel for my 40th birthday?

Hi all, looking to book a 3 night stay away for my 40th birthday and would love some recommendations as we typically don't stay in hotels very often, certainly not luxury ones!

Would like somewhere in the South West, by the sea (preferably overlooking it) so that I can wake up to the sound of the waves and step out onto the coast path.

Would like it to be cosy, have character and a good restaurant (not necessarily Michelin starred, but something a little fancy - but still with enough food to leave you satisfied). Preferably somewhere away from a busy town.

Budget is anywhere up to £600.

Thank you, oh wise and well traveled Mumsnetters!

What time of year will you be going?

The Fish. Gorgeous

The landmark

The Headland in Newquay. It has a new restaurant this year and I love having a cocktail in the Aqua spa hot tub looking at the waves.

February. I don't mind wild and rough or bad weather - love watching stormy seas and I can put on my walking clothes. But, a nice spa or a character room would be lovely if the weather does suck!

Homewood Park, The Newt, Pennyhill Park are all lovely

I'd sort of ruled out Bedruthan as my dad and stepmum would always go there with my little sister and it sounded like a very jolly family place (dad was very proud of winning the best dancing dad competitions at the discos) so didn't feel like a luxury relaxed break sort of place. Happy to be corrected though!

Ha, not staying at The Newt, I live 4 miles away and I can't justify paying that much to sleep within spitting distance of my own bed! It is lovely though, I'll give you that, and I'd like to see the grounds without the crowds.

Thank you all, lots of places to consider ☺️

Some initial ideas:

Saunton Sands Hotel, Braunton, Devon

Pig on the Beach, Studland, Dorset

Pig at Harlyn Bay, Harlyn, Cornwall - not quite right on the coast

Watergate Bay Hotel, Newquay - amazing sea views but might not be relaxing enough

Lewinnick Lodge, Newquay - amazing sea views, right on the cliffs

The Headland Hotel, Newquay - great beach views

Driftwood, Portscatho, Cornwall - above budget but amazing food and glorious views

I was also going to suggest the pig at Studland

Oooh, I like the look of Lewinnick Lodge, especially the Storm Watching offer. That's exactly what I'm after!

I love a hotel with a sea view and Lewinnick Lodge feels like you’re really right in the midst of the sea. The food is great too.

It feels really quite remote but it’s a lovely walk into Newquay too.

Blakeney hotel.
The Harper in Langham.
