Got a break for 5 days in Brixham.
Never been to that end of the country.
Its in the Autumn.

Can you recommend family days out in the area?

Older kids, over 11 years old.
Have a car so happy to venture.

Can’t wait for this break!
Thanks.

We have gone to:
National Trusts - Coleton Fishacre, Greenacres, Castle Drogo
Paignton Zoo
Dartmouth
Steam Train (Paignton to Kingswear for Dartmouth)
Salcombe
Crab fishing off the harbour
Good swimming pool in Torquay if weather is horrible ditto the cinema
Pirate crazy golf in Paignton
Totnes Rare Breeds Farm was always a massive hit with animal mad DD2

I'll have a think and see if I can come up with anything else.

Is the Eden project worth a look?

Eden project is AMAZING!

DorotheaFrazil · 26/08/2023 17:53

Eden Project is great. We've never been from Brixham - kids were little so we stayed local.

Rockfish is very nice for fish and chips!

AuntieDolly · 26/08/2023 17:58

Isn't the Eden profject long way from Brixham?

purplewolfie · 26/08/2023 17:59

I think you can get a boat to Torquay or Dartmouth

ShanghaiDiva · 26/08/2023 18:05

Great national trust properties in the area. My favourites are Coleton Fishacre and Agatha Christie’s Holiday home -Greenway.
Paignton zoo
eden project is overrated Imo and I prefer Lost Gardens of Heligan, about 90 mins from Brixham.
Dartmouth is lovely and castle is interesting.

indyocean · 26/08/2023 18:28

Eden project is miles away .A couple of hours drive at least. Driving in and out of Brixham takes forever

South Hams is
Nicer than Brixham and torbay

Dartmouth
Totnes
Slapton
Salcombe
Easy prawle
Kingsbridge
Thurlestone
Burgh Island/bigbury

Dartmoor

Kids will like Woodlands adventure park

indyocean · 26/08/2023 18:29

Berry Head Hotel nice for views

Victoriangirl1900 · 26/08/2023 22:00

There's a pirate ship in the harbour people can have a look around

Teentrauma · 26/08/2023 23:04

Definitely a day up on Dartmoor including Lydford Gorge (National Trust)
Crabbing at Stoke Gabriel.
You can get a steam train from Goodrington near Paignton & Brixham to Greenway National Trust & get a little boat from there to the pretty village of Dittisham & back again
Eden Project is in Cornwall & not that near so wouldn't bother on a 5 day trip
Love the area - been there dozens of times & never tire of it!

OHVanessaShanessaJenkins · 27/08/2023 12:30

Steam train sounds brilliant, thanks.
And thanks for the tip on Eden.

I will look into the other suggestions, all fantastic so thank you everyone.

The Living Zoo I think it’s called is good. We did the Seal Safari too.

TootenCarMoon · 27/08/2023 12:36

We also walked past the fishing bit, Rockfish and car park in the harbour and walked along the coastal path to maybe Broadsands Beach? Can’t remember the name of it now.
Berryhead hotel is lovely for a drink with a view.

Teentrauma · 27/08/2023 15:50

There's a nice walk over the cliffs from Broadsands Beach to Ebury Cove.

jeaux90 · 28/08/2023 10:55

Blackpool sands so you can take the ferry there or back. You can hire paddle boards there which you all might like. Stop via Totnes on the way there or back for pasty buying.

Really liked Brixham as there is a lot around there to do...skip Paignton.

PickUpTheDogAndBone · 28/08/2023 11:01

We did a sea safari from Brixham harbour - was fab. Saw porpoises!

ReadtheReviews · 28/08/2023 11:18

There's a nice walk to the lighthouse with cafe close by.
