Am travelling 23/10 - 27/10 (late flight home) with DD13. She likes sights but she doesn't want too much "boring history" so I keep the plans light 😀

Monday - Arrive 0905 Marco Polo 23/10. We are staying near San Stae vaparetto stop and will get the water bus from the airport. We are staying here https://abnb.me/0B1NXoz5zCb.
First day go to the market for food shopping (we will do a bit of self catering mixed with restaurants) then head out to St Mark's Basilica (and the terrace for midday to see the clock figures chiming), giardini reali, the clock tower to go inside the clock and museo de La musica. (Dd is an aspiring classical flautist with orchestra ambitions and also plays the viola so will be very interested in this museum)

Tuesday - start early with Row Venice, self guided tour of the Ghetto and general wandering about, drinking of wine and eating of snacks. then head to Murano for some lunch and the afternoon where we hope to do glassblowing, visit Simone Cenedese gallery and find the blue comet sculpture . Take vaparetto ride through grand Canal after we get back

Wednesday - a chilled morning on Burano and Torcello as Dd loves being out in the fresh air then back via Murano to collect our glass then wander around Dursoduro taking in Ca Macana mask place and the gondola boatyard. Vivaldi concert at the Vivaldi church in the evening

Thursday - start early at Doges Palace secret itinerary tour, Fondaco roof terrace, then just spend the afternoon soaking up the city before our 2140 flight
Does this sound doable, too much ? We like to take our time and factor in plenty of gardens and coffee stops

No, there’s nothing really super cramped. I’m claustrophobic and I was absolutely fine.

☺️

Phew !

I’m going to be in Venice at the same time OP with my DDs so thanks for posting this! I’ve picked up lots of tips from this thread.

Can I ask about the clock chiming at Saint Marks Basilica? I’ve read about the astronomical clock but haven’t seen anything about specific times to see the figures moving? Do you have any more info?

Get the hi!tide Venice app so you know when St Mark's square will be flooded - it now floods most days. If you are going to visits the Basilica close to flooding west flip flops the only way in and out of the Basilica is through the water.
If you have an Aperitif and in Cafe Florin rather than coffee you get olives and snacks included.
We booked a shared water taxi through get your guide from the airport a little more the vapouretta, but much more fun.
We also booked a combined St Mark's Basilica and Doges Palace your that was excellent.

It is well worth finding out and climbing the Scala contarini del Bovolo it has amazing view over the city roof tops.

How did you get on OP? I’ve just read your thread as we are going in February.

Have to say that my favourite thing in Venice was just wandering the back streets away from the throngs. It's incredible... you come across tranquil little squares, beautiful doorways and wells, fabulous little eateries, amazing slices of history that you could easily miss... Make sure you find time to do that. It's especially wonderful in the evenings somehow.
Also second the Peggy Guggenheim gallery... such a great backstory and there's and incredible terrace where you can watch all the boats go by on the Grand Canal and imagine being that rich (this was Peggy's home).
Have fun!

And just realised you've already been!
