Which resort/hotel? Majorca, All inclusive with young DC

Just that really.
Decided to go abroad next year when DC will be 5 and 2 (almost 3) Will be first time on a plane. Mainly due to flight length/times and frequency from our nearest Airport we've decided on Majorca, end of July.
Looking for recommendations (or heads up on ones to avoid) for hotels/resorts. Ideally all inclusive, 4/5 with lot's for the kids.

*@Pie8er that's sounds like exactly what we're looking for. Was there any evening entertainment at the hotel?

Yeah - the usual type things. There’s a mini disco each night then a show afterwards…a dance act, magician, circus, clowns.
They have entertainment for kids around the splash pools. So maybe a game for parents and kids - we played pool bingo which was finding ping pong balls in the pool.
They do painting activities like t shirts and bags. There’s been face painting and balloon animals.
There’s no kids club to leave them in, it’s more short activities where you join them

grass321 · 27/08/2023 19:04

We’ve stayed at a couple of Iberostar hotels and they are lovely, plenty of activities and the kids made friends in the kids clubs.

We stayed at the Iberostar Ciudad Blanca a couple of times when our kids were small. It's on the beach at Alcudia which is lovely.

It's no Ikos in terms of food, room quality and service (and the dreaded sunbed reserving) but it's a solid 4 star AI. My kids also loved the slightly tacky mini disco every night (we had to buy the DVD so it sadly lived on).

I like Santa Ponsa with DS.

The beach has a lovely bay, there is lots to do nearby such as the go ape type activity and water park.

This is in Santa Ponsa. Jet2. Fun hotel for little ones.

It's £4.5k for a AI. It the accommodation is 1 bed apt which means you get kettle, microwave and fridge etc which is always handy with little ones

NowWhattt · 27/08/2023 20:53

We’re lucky in that my husband works a lot in Mallorca so have been there four times this year already . Lots of my favourite places aren’t mentioned- but then I hate touristy places and fortunately go to places where the locals recommend going. Loathe Magaluf / Palma Nova/ Alcudia.
Menorca May be better for you with little ones .

jollies8 · 27/08/2023 20:57

Majorca is perfect for families. I love Cala d'or, we went this year with our 1 year old and he had a blast, we stayed at marsenses Fererra Blanca and it is perfect for young kids. Friends love Palma Nova too with their young children but haven't been as an adult myself. We are going to Cala Bona next week which is more relaxed but a good option for young families.

Thanks everyone.

I think we're narrowed it down to:
Protur Bonaire Aparthotel, Cala Bona
Protur Vista Badia, Sa Coma
One of the Zafiro Hotels, Ca'n Picafort

We are staying at the Protur Bonaire next week, I can report back my thoughts if you would like, DS will be 2 in October and it looks great for young kids.

Thanks, this is one i've been looking at, looks lovely. Not worried about childcare. Is it a very long airport transfer

We went to the hotel next to this one earlier this year. If you can afford a private transfer it only takes about 45 minutes. Otherwise we wouldn't have booked as it said 2 hours + on the coach.

Softpebbles · 27/08/2023 21:07

We went to Santa ponsa this year. Horrendous.

Mcdonalds opposite the beach sort of sums it up.

Broodywuz · 27/08/2023 21:19

*@jollies8 Yes that would be great if you could, thanks. Hope you have a lovely holiday

*@Crikeyalmighty ahh that makes sense really, not much point having an all inclusive, all singing and dancing hotel that you're not really going to leave in the middle of a resort! I'm probably looking for too much. Have never done AI before, I wouldn't say it's really my thing but with young dc and not knowing how they'll be, it appeals to me having everything on site.

Another vote for the protur Bonaire Cala Bona. It was a while ago but was great when kids were little and Cala Bona and Cala Millor were nice.
We also liked the Playa Mar in Puerto Pollensa.
And Viva Ca'n Picafort, though was a little walk from the beach.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/08/2023 22:01

@Softpebbles yes but Cala bona where OP is looking also has a very prominent Maccy Ds.

I can see why Santa ponsa might not be your bag - but it's no Alcúdia and is handy for places like camp de Mar and paguera which I quite like- personally I think way nicer than that Cala Millor/sa coma/Cala Millor area- and at least Palma is handy- and I love Palma - my fave resort is Sant Elm -beautiful and little known

We stayed at Viva sunrise September last year and booked the royal terrace room (it has a jacuzzi on the balcony which is brilliant for an evening chill when you have little ones who are in bed by 9) booked it self catering and upgraded to all inclusive at the resort (which is cheaper than booking all inclusive through the travel operator) fun little childrens disco every evening and a nice splash pool with slides. Buffet food was really good too.

5min walk to beach which seemed like a lovely stretch, golden sand, clear water. However the resort itself Alcudia is so so, we got the bus to puerto pollensa and old town Alcudia for a few day trips (but our 2 year old would have quite happily just lived in the splash pool with the odd excursion to the beach to build sandcastles for a week)

Definitely recommend it for little ones, for us we could afford the best room in this 4 star hotel or the worst room in a 5 star hotel and the room was just so great on an evening for us sipping cocktails on the balcony and not feeling like our evenings were cut short. Xx

We had an amazing time and would highly recommend Cala Bona as a resort and this hotel. Majorca is yet to let us down and it's becoming my favourite place to holiday. We will definitely be back to this resort. Perfect for kids, plenty of space in the hotel for DS to run about and all the kids seem to love the little pond with the turtles and fish. The splash park was a huge hit aswell. There's a little park in the resort with go karts, bouncy castles and trampolines which was great for younger kids and a little bar with a bouncy castle and swings/slides for the kids too. We hired one of those 4 wheel bikes out and it was great fun. My only downside was as a vegetarian I didn't find the selection at the hotel that good but there are plenty of lovely places to eat out and food wasn't an issue for DP or DS who aren't vegetarians. Cala Bona beach is small but was fine for us as it wasn't as busy and easier to keep an eye on DS but you can easily walk to Cala Millor beach which is a lot nicer and a lovely flat walk.

jolene8 · 11/09/2023 14:30

Also I never seen a McDonald's anywhere as PP said and we had a good walk out every evening. There is a Burger King in Cala millor but that's about a half hour walk away, but not in Cala Bona that I came across.

nappiesandcontracts · 11/09/2023 14:37

Puerto Pollensa is lovely - definitely recommend looking there. We stayed at the Hoposa Villaconcha which was absolutely ideal for young children (4 pools including shallow baby spool and splash pool), few minutes walk to the beach and plenty of shops/restaurants.

Who needs McDonalds when you have this? (Near Alcudia)

We have just booked there for 2024. So pleased you liked it. Did you have an apartment? Was it a duplex or on one level? Thanks x

Was this for me? We had a single level apartment- I was a little worried about being assigned a duplex as we have young children but they told me at check in that they always give the single level ones to families with young children. Feel free to shoot over any other questions! 😊

Newbie999 · 12/09/2023 14:56

Yes it was meant for you. Thanks so much - will have a few questions which I will send over.

MulticolourTriangles · 12/09/2023 14:57

We stayed at Protur Bonaire in Cala Bona in June and it was a lovely week. My two DC were a bit older than yours at 7 and 8 but we really enjoyed it. The splash pool is great for little ones and the bouncy fountain thing in the main pool was great fun. The rooms were a little bit tired but we were told that they are closing this winter and refurbing them. Cala Bona is such a lovely little harbour resort, we were AI but went out to eat a few times and we were spoilt for choice. It was only an hour or so transfer from the airport to the hotel.

TheDuchessOfMN · 30/09/2023 13:33

Has anyone been to both Cala d’Or and Puerto Pollensa, and which did they prefer?

My brain is fried from researching both. I think I prefer the look of PP - nicer scenery in the north?

I've been to both and think Peurto Pollensa is definitely the nicest, although if you love snorkelling and swimming in the sea some of the little bays around Cala D'or are phenomenal (although there's good snorkelling in the North too)

As a couple I would go to Puerto Pollensa, however now I have a 3 year old perhaps Cala D'or as it's slightly more geared towards families. (I last went to Cala D'or 10 years ago before kids and the resort itself had a few too many British pubs and over touristy for my liking at the time) x
