City break with teens

Any recommendations for next Easter?

We have enjoyed Rome, Grenada and Venice.

Am wondering about Valletta or Dubrovnik? Ideally would love not to fly but also like sunshine!

Berlin. You can get there by train (it's a long day, but doable if you live within an hour of London). Or get the new sleeper service.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/08/2023 17:54

The Hague. Ferry across (pay a bit more and get a cabin for an overnight crossing) to the Hook of Holland.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 22/08/2023 18:57

Amsterdam as you can get there by train and the tulip festival will be on then https://tulipfestivalamsterdam.com/tulip-festival/
There’s loads to do for teens.

sheeplikessleep · 22/08/2023 18:59

Our two teenage DSs loved Berlin! The history, the museums, the parks …

StrongandNorthern · 22/08/2023 19:03

Amsterdam - 100%. Use ferry. Sooo much to do!

Coldheadedathos · 22/08/2023 19:12

Barcelona. Loads to see, great transport, fantastic food and people. Plus a beach. We had a fab weekend there with DD.

itsmyp4rty · 22/08/2023 19:25

Dubrovnik is beautiful but weather not guaranteed at Easter. Much quieter though and we got a good deal on an Airbnb in the old town with a lovely terrace and stunning views out over the old town. Definitely more interesting IMO than Valletta.

cptartapp · 22/08/2023 20:02

Have also enjoyed
Seville - my fave
Malaga
Copenhagen

grayhairdontcare · 22/08/2023 20:13

Budapest

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 22/08/2023 21:18

Mine has enjoyed Madrid, Lisbon, Rome, Florence, Bologna, Verona, Brussels, Innsbruck, Salamanca and Toledo over the last few years.

cherryassam · 22/08/2023 22:19

How long are you wanting to go for?

Valletta is a lovely city but it’s not full of sights / things to do. It’s very pretty and the food is nice. Day trips are possible elsewhere in Malta.

Dubrovnik has a good mix of beach and sightseeing. But late March / Early April the weather won’t be guaranteed as @itsmyp4rty says. I’ve been in April and it’s been pretty rainy and cold.

If warmth is important, southern Spain is a good shout. They also really do Easter in a big way which can be quite the spectacle! But can push up prices if you’re wanting to go over Easter itself. Seville or Malaga would be good options.

On the warm theme, Marrakech is lovely temperature at that time of year.

Latetothetable · 22/08/2023 22:22

Another vote for Berlin!

TravellingSpoon · 22/08/2023 22:43

We have loved Budapest, Berlin and Krakow with tweens/teens.

lilyfire · 22/08/2023 22:54

Went to Budapest this summer with my teens. Lots to see and they liked the spas. Would definitely recommend.

BrokenMantra · 23/08/2023 03:11

Lovely ideas thanks - may need a list!

Paris

Amsterdam
Barcelona
Seville
Marrakech

Oblomov23 · 23/08/2023 03:49

Been to most places listed and loved them all but Easter is often unfortunately nippier than you think. So I'd probably go for Bruges, Berlin or Amsterdam.

Netaporter · 23/08/2023 03:54

Marrakech is a wonderful vibrant place but do make sure if you are going into the Souks in the medina that you have a local guide with you. They can be very uncomfortable and overwhelming IME if you are clearly not a local or if you have teenage girls. YSL’s house and gardens is an amazing place to visit though.

Would also recommend Budapest, Berlin, Milan, Barcelona, Paris and Athens as places mine have enjoyed. Cape Town,NYC and Miami if you are considering further afield!

Netaporter · 23/08/2023 03:55

i’d also add that Easter in Barcelona is quite spectacular with the religious parades.

BackToWhereItAllBegan · 23/08/2023 04:01

Another vote for Amsterdam, DS (18) really enjoyed our long weekend there.
He's also enjoyed Berlin and Barcelona in recent years but he wasn't so keen on Stockholm or Copenhagen.

BackToWhereItAllBegan · 23/08/2023 04:04

Should have also added, Boston was his absolute favorite city overall if you're up for a longer flight!

MissAmbrosia · 23/08/2023 10:17

Barcelona, or Nice (doable by train)

New York!!!
Or Barcelona if Europe.

43ontherocksporfavor · 23/08/2023 10:27

Just seen you’re keen not to fly. Paris?

RatSalad · 23/08/2023 14:51

I’d say Amsterdam too. So much to do there at that age.

But book your Anne Frank House tickets at least 6 weeks in advance!
