Hi, we're planning to get the ferry to Santander next summer, and taking two weeks or so to travel up to Roscoff to get the ferry home. We're planning on stopping at maybe 5 or 6 places on the way. Probably San Sebastian and Hossegor are likely but if anyone has done a similar road trip, or has any suggestions of lovely places to stop, I'd appreciate it. We are a family of 5, with kids who'll be 13, 16 and 18 at the time. We like surfing, biking, kayaking and hiking, but also love browsing markets and good coffee/food! Thanks in advance.

Bilbao is fantastic. We found the food even better than SS and the Guggenheim is great- think teens would enjoy it. Biarritz is great for surfing. Love San Sebastián. La Rochelle is very cute.

Biscarosse has a lovely beach with fine white sand and there’s lots to do: the incredible Aqua Park, climbing Dune du Pilat, surfing lessons, paddle boarding and a treetop trek.
Futuroscope is my ds’s all time favourite theme park. There are a number of hotels onsite and lots next door, as it’s really worth staying over for a couple of nights.

Thanks @Bobbybobbins and @Fivemoreminutes1 It's proving very difficult to whittle it down! There are so many beautiful places.

Following because we have exactly the same plan for 2025 and also have no idea where to stop. Apart from La Rochelle because it was in my French textbook!

Planning something similar. Have heard that Arcachon is lovely so thinking about that.

This sounds fantastic - we're about to get ferry to France tomorrow and hoping we all cope with the sea travel/long drive. If we do it could open up a whole world of touring holidays and this one sounds brilliant x

Agree with Biscarosse, lovely, funky surfer town with a great beach.
Visited Arcachon today, its beautiful, really nice vibe about the place. The parc mauresque is a lovely place for a wander and picnic with beautiful views.
St Emilion is gorgeous too, some fabulous vineyards to visit.

Thanks everyone. Glad to hear that about Biscarosse. We have decided to do Bilbao, San Sebastian, Biscarosse, les Sables d'olonne, Dinan and then ferry home from Roscoff. We'll stop at other points while travelling between locations.

Hi
Sorry to jump on this old thread but wondered if you could recommend any accommodation in Biscarosse suitable for teens?
My kids are interested in learning to surf - do you know if the surf schools teach in English or just French?

Thanks in advance!

Marie-Claude, Philippe and Alain must be middle aged nowadays mind you 😆

@greasyspooncafe

We’ve been to La Rive twice. It’s around a 20 min drive to Biscarosse Plage.

It’s a great site, with the lake and lake beach - loads of water sports. We took our own paddle board.
Usual bike hire with some lovely cycle paths around.
Good pool complex, slides are fairly tame but fun.

I don’t know about surf schools sorry!

@AlphaAlpha thanks very much!
