Looking for Ryannair experiences or checked luggage from this summer…

We have booked a return flight with Ryanair for our family summer holiday (no option due to dates / location). We have booked 2 checked 10kg cases as part of this (along with a 20kg case). These are cases that will be checked into the hold before security and not taken on board with us (overstating this as previous threads have got confused as the 10kg limit used to be for cabin luggage only - they now have a checked option). The max dimensions for this 10kg checked bag is 55x40x20. Our cases are 55 x 45 x 25.

Has anyone had the size of their checked 10kg bags checked in the measuring thing they use ahead of check in at the airport? Trying to avoid buying yet more luggage. Also read on previous threads that it’s not Ryannair staff that check you in at that stage so they won’t be bothering to check (not sure this is true). We’re flying Newcastle to Gran Canaria in case this helps. TIA x

Yes, just flown to GC with Ryanair, it's only the weight that matters for the check in bags, dimensions only come into play for bags you're bringing on board.

@mirmc did they make you put your carry on bags in the sizer?

No, haven't seen that done for a long time.

We had Family Plus- 4 x 10 kg and 1 x 20kg bags checked in, way more than we needed, so can't imagine you would need anymore than a small bag each to bring on board that would fit under the seat, but haven't seen them using those sizers in years.

I never saw anyone checking sizes for checked in bags when we flew with Ryanair at the end of June.

And check in was done by ourselves on the self service scales rather than by staff (Glasgow Airport)

I flew with Ryanair from Leeds-Bradford a few weeks ago and they did not check dimensions of the two 10kg checked bags we brought. One was definitely medium suitcase sized, just very light and not full.

We flew Ryanair in June. We had a 20kg checked in bag, but others in our party had the 10kg bags. None were measured to go into the hold, only weighed.

Thanks so much for your responses. The only question remaining is whether 4 of us (2 adults, 2 children 6 & 3) will have enough space in 40kg of luggage 😬 plus rucksacks!

10kg + a rucksack each is loads for a sun holiday. You can fit a lot in a rucksack. You can always go to a laundry when there if you run short of anything.

Is it a hotel?
Take travel wash and you can wash and rinse through clothes if you need to. We used to take clothes line and pegs and hope there was a balcony we could hang stuff on.
Now we go to a villa and wash stuff in a washing machine

There is always an alternative to Ryanair. Don't think otherwise. Hope it works out OK, but please don't support the bully Michael O'Leary again.

Our luggage sizes were not checked when we did this recently. I think Ryanair says you can combine allowances too so you could take two 20kg cases if easier (but double check this).
